ALTERNATIVE MUSIC REVIEWS

Motionless in White/New Years Day/Silent Screams @ The Fleece, Bristol

A trip over the border to Bristol for the penultimate date on the rescheduled Beyond the Barricade tour. The whole idea of the tour was to play smaller venues again and get rid of barriers for a more intimate feel and The Fleece is an ideal venue.

Bury Tomorrow – Earthbound

"As a whole, it really encompasses the true spirit of metalcore, developing on previous success to provide thundering new material for fans to sink their teeth into" - Bethan Adams

Turnover at The Exchange, Bristol

Back on January 15th I had the pleasure of seeing Turnover live for the first time! I only got into them not long before the show but I am glad I did.

More Than Most – Impossible is Temporary

This exciting EP is the product of an insanely talented band and an acclaimed producer in Justin Hill. It is a must listen as it is sure to propel the band to dizzy heights in 2016.

Ships Have Sailed – Moodswings

I enjoy the techno aspects and feel that they are blended well with the musical style and singing. It is full of fantastic tracks that really characterize the singer’s emotions, which is what really matters to me.

The Last Sunrise Tour (Never Found, Ashestoangels) @ The Scene, Swansea

Following on from the Beyond the Barricade tour in Bristol, was a trip back across the border to a very rainy and windy Swansea for The Last Sunrise tour at The Scene.

RHYN – Absence

The band is Rhyn who’ll be hitting the music scene as hard as plantar fasciitis hits the soul of the foot. They have been likened to hard hitting bands such as Muse and Biffy Clyro and I did see the name of Nirvana crop up too.

Basement – Promise Everything

Previous releases 'Colourmeinkindness' and 'I Wish I Could Stay Here' will of course, have their cult following but in comparison to 'Promise Everything', they simply no longer suffice...

Thirty Silver – Lost Saints

Thirty Silver are a post-punk/grunge duo from Boston, Massachusetts. They released their EP Lost Saints on January 21st.

Syren City, Koshiro, Tuskens and Pushing Daisies @ Bristol, Thekla

The 20th December saw a showcase of the best in the Bristol scene taking place on a boat at Thekla. The line-up was truly fantastic and was a fantastic way to see out the New Year for all the bands involved, who in their own right have all had successful 2015s.

The Family Silver – Electric Blend

Ever wondered or feared what will happen when Mother Earth is no more? The answer is simple, the ashes rise and becomes ‘The Family Silver’.

Don’t Stop! Go! – Our Last Goodbyes

Don’t Stop! Go! are a pop-punk/post-hardcore/emo quartet who are based in Manchester. Their new album Our Last Goodbyes is self produced by vocalist/guitarist Danneh Gleave and bassist/backing vocalist Mat Buckley and was released on December 16 2015.

FVK @ The Scene Club, Swansea

Elizabeth Birt reviewed Never Found and Fearless Vampire Killers' sets in Swansea.

Lower Than Atlantis, Moose Blood and As It Is @ O2 Academy, Bristol

It was Friday night and the Bristol O2 Academy was set for a fantastic night… an evening showcasing three bands that have all taken 2015 by storm.

Secrets – Everything That Got Us Here

San Diego post/hardcore band Secrets released ‘Everything That Got Us Here’ via Rise Records on the 11th December 2015. It appears that comic con and Amy Farrah Fowler or Blossom, depending on your age isn’t the only things to come out of ‘Silicon Beach’.
