ALTERNATIVE MUSIC REVIEWS

Fearless Vampire Killers @ Electric Circus, Edinburgh

"Having seen these guys four times last year, they always seem to be on the edge when headlining a show (or stage) compared to when they don't. But, tonight none of that was present and they really blew me away".

Taller Than Stories – Memoirs of the Forgotten

"The EP is a stand-out release from the dark rock trio. Known for telling stories through their songs, this release shows a perfect example of just that. Using a unique vocal range to increase intensity in the story".

The Word Alive – Dark Matter

The overall album is full of monster breakdowns, atmospheric riffs, smooth cleans and guttural growls.

Yashin – The Renegades

The hurt these guys have been through in the past few years can be felt throughout the album, even without being familiar with the back story you get a sense of what they've been through. However, under all the darkness and anger you have a catchy, well put together album that fans are sure to love and making the wait well worth it.

Wednesday 13 – Undead and Unplugged at Thekla, Bristol

For those of you who have never been to the Thekla in Bristol, the first thing you notice about it (and the most obvious) is that it is a boat. The second thing is that inside it is a maze with on occasion dark corridors, one of which leads to a bar where tonight's show is taking place.

Pete Herbert – Questions

While this is not the first set of tracks Pete has done solo but it is the mellowest and more heartfelt lyrically.

Cheap Meat – The Parts That Show

The blueprint for debut EP The Parts That Show was laid down over a summer of barbeque cookouts and listening to punk rock albums.

Tonight Alive, ABC O2, Glasgow 21/02/16

Heading to ABC O2 in Glasgow there was an energy in the air that the cold and normal rain of Glasgow couldn't squash. Talking with fans outside the venue, some of them had been queuing for eight hours before door in the Glasgow conditions all for the chance to see Tonight Alive.

Embrace The Fall That Brought Us Here – Apherium

Embrace The Fall That Brought Us Here does lack variation but being that the EP is only three tracks long it is hard for the band to showcase all they can offer. But, with this no nonsense style and high energy, this EP is perfect to jump around your room to, even if it is for approximately eleven minutes!

Tonight Alive – Limitless

This is an album that new fans will love as it is a fantastic entry point for newcomers but, old fans will have to put it on repeat to get used to this new sound.

Creeper @ Le Pub, Newport

Day two of Creeper's first ever headline tour rolls into South Wales at Newport's premier independent music venue Le Pub.

Escape the Fate @ Electric Ballroom, London

The sun is out and Camden is the destination for US rockers Escape The Fate. As it is the last date of the Hate Me tour, anticipation is high for a spectacular performance as the band look to end their latest European stint with a bang...

The Shapers – Reckless Youth

Toulouse Pop Punk band ‘The Shapers’ release their EP ‘Reckless Youth’ on the 26th February. Past winners of best up and coming band and have shared the stage with Punk legends Pennywise and NOFX is certainly a dream that’s coming true for this alternative punk trio.

Creeper – The Stranger EP

Southampton goth-punks Creeper have brought new life into a jaded rock scene of almost identical releases and copycat bands since their formation in 2014, uniting a group of misfits into The Callous Heart.

Motionless in White/New Years Day/Silent Screams @ The Fleece, Bristol

A trip over the border to Bristol for the penultimate date on the rescheduled Beyond the Barricade tour. The whole idea of the tour was to play smaller venues again and get rid of barriers for a more intimate feel and The Fleece is an ideal venue.
