Halestorm, In This Moment and New Years Day @ Motorpoint Arena Nottingham

To see Halestorm announcing a UK arena tour just a year after playing much smaller venues was a shock, and it meant they’d for sure have to be bringing some heavy hitters with them. These came in the form of In This Moment and New Years Day, who have both commanded a mass following for many years, but also bring something much different to the table both musically and in the performance of said music.

Album Review: Bellevue Days – It Can’t Possibly Go Wrong Ever

Croydon rockers "Bellevue Days" released their long-awaited debut album, It Can't Possibly Go Wrong Ever on the 22nd November 2019, just in time for Christmas.

The Fever 333 @ Leeds University Stylus

Fever 333 live at Leeds University Stylus was an interesting night, that's for sure. The decision to not have an opening act left a vacuum of time between doors and the band taking the stage, as the sold-out room slowly filled. There was a distinct goodness in the air, however. I'd got myself on a sort of balcony, overlooking the ground below that I knew would later become a massive pit.

Issues – ‘Beautiful Oblivion’

Issues haven't completely shed the skin that is metalcore on new record 'Beautiful Oblivion', but they've certainly moisturised it with some extra glossy melodies that make the record more accessible to people outside of the scene

Gender Roles – Prang

In 2018, the month of September, day 28th  approximately 6pm, upstairs at the Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney, Mare street, I witnessed a three piece band from Brighton called Gender Roles, these musicians consist of drummer Jordan Lilford, guitarist/vocalist Tom Bennett and bassist Jared Tomkins who all met/formed in 2015 at Jordan’s Brighton Pride party. In this thirty-minute set, they aided my tinnitus and enabled the love of music. A year later these punk/garage rockers release their debut record PRANG, it’s here in my grasps and is ready for release on August 30th via Big Scary Monsters. Recorded with producer Ian Sadler at Emeline Studios in Kent over ten days.

Junior ‘Beautiful Life’ album review

Junior have spent two years writing 'Beautiful Life', recording it across three studios, with the simple goal of pushing out the boat both with their own sound, and with the messages they can get out in their songs. They work long and then work hard, and it's safe to say that they've proved they're not just another pop punk band.

Sunsleeper – You Can Miss Something & Not Want It Back

Sunsleeper's new album 'You Can Miss Something & Not Want It Back' is a bold statement, both in title and music. They don't shy away from the emo label, readily embracing their influences on the new record. But the fact is, anything could happen on an emo revival album.

PhoxJaw – A Playground for Sad Adults

Bristol’s Phoxjaw are back with their second EP, A playground for Sad Adults. So, let’s get this part started, Phoxjaw are comprised of Danny Gartland, Josh Galop, Kieran Gallop and Alexander Share, the press likening their sound to Biffy Clyro and Deftones…..strong stuff.

Slam Dunk 2019 Awards – Leeds

We bring you another festival awards from Slam Dunk!

Siamese – Super Human

Danish RnB-Core band Siamese have just released their 5th studio album Super Human (3rd as Siamese, previously know as Siamese Fighting Fish) and is possibly the album of 2019. Admittedly, this may come across bias as I have been hooked on them since my first encounter as a support band for Dead By April a couple of years ago... But cast that aside, you need to check out this album!

Broadening Horizons – How Slam Dunk is appealing to more fans than ever.

Slam Dunk has long been seen as a predominantly pop-punk festival. Although they have often featured a smattering of heavier or more abrasive bands, much of the higher reaches of the festival bills have been dominated by relatively inoffensive bands. In the last two years we have seen a rise in truly interesting aggressive music with the likes of Employed To Serve winning Kerrang!’s album of the year award last year and groups such as Code Orange making a splash on the global stage with a Grammy nomination. As Slam Dunk has manoeuvred to keep pace with this scene change, so has it looked to widen it's vision to further encompass a generation of fans who gazed longingly over The Pond at Vans Warped Tour in the late 1990s.
