Couch Slut have released their fourth album You Could Do It Tonight.
An extreme 9-track album, with themes of home invasions, murders, assaults and more. An audio horror, which explores new territories or terror within music. It certainly was a horror.
I’ll begin with what I enjoyed, the spoken word of The Donkey was a nice difference, which made the song stick out, and the ending of the track was strong.
I enjoyed the musicianship of Downhill Racer as the guitar riffs were nice, and it was consistently cool throughout. Presidential Welcome was a nice break, a calmness without removing the chilling feeling that the album aimed for.
Energy Crystals for Healing and The Weaversville Home For Boys was palatable, it could possibly grow on me.
Apart from that, it wasn’t a nice experience.
It comes with trigger warnings and advises you to listen at your own discretion. Though, it wasn’t the harsh topics that put me off.
The screaming sounded struggled and forced, and most of the tracks sounded the same. The lyrics were so blunt, it didn’t draw me in. If you’re going to tell me a story, give me suspense, some nuance at least. It felt like someone trying to imitate metal.
I’m sure it’s someone’s idea of a good time, receiving positive reviews on other platforms. However, it’s not for me.
