Huxtable are a Scottish duo who have a huge influence from the likes of Royal Blood and fellow Scots-rockers Biffy Clyro, praise will be given for such an interesting combination of sounds, so without further ado, let us take you through the Change Shape Future EP.

Don’t Do Anything Fancy opens with a gritty hard rock sounding guitar, before drums and hints of Scottish accent appear with resemblance to Biffy Clyro brings great attraction in keeping my ears interested, most so when you include the raw unclean vocal track following up each clean sentence. Certainly keeping things unique as until this day I can honestly say I have never heard a Kazoo be used in a serious way, somehow Huxtable have proven it can be quite the unique addition to a bridge.

A pacey drum beat for Super Toxic, using the song title as the opening words for a psychedelic flow of vocals for the chorus causing a trancing feeling. A verse of unusual melodies draws my attention to inspiration from Finch. A key changing bridge creates a nice edge for this track to keep it interesting.

You Got It To Go gets straight to business with a big sound of bass/guitar following each other with the great use of the octave pedal. The track takes more of a darker turn of events with a very epic-sounding bridge which is the key focus of the track generating a clear sign of the bands heavy influence on the music scene.

Storming into Break It Hard screaming “Take the wheel, take the god damn wheel” delivering a ballsy impact which doesn’t get any less chaotic and fearless as each section builds in its own way creating an edgy hair raising vibe that would truly bring live shows alive closing with a very energetic outro.

Finishing the EP off in punk rock fashion with Act Of War containing all the additional elements (even a horns section subtly dropped in towards the end) showing their diversity resulting in a classic case of trying to answer the question“What genre would you label yourselves?” that Huxtable can consider themselves uncategorised in such labelling with their unique take over the many rock based genres covered within the handful of songs provided.

Well, Scotland has provided some great talents but maybe it’s time for passing the torch down the line because Huxtable are here, providing the goods to keep you anticipating for more future releases.
