Can’t Swim, still pretty fresh to the scene, have gained a great following since their arrival in 2015. With their second studio album ‘This Too Won’t Pass‘ has it’s dark turns in relations to ex-relationships, expressing the emotions through the power of music.

With lines like “Blocking out our future with my past” from My Queen and “The writings on the photo that you gave to me, is all I have left” from their latest single Sometimes You Meet The Right People At The Wrong Times (which is what the message read on the photo according to the band). Moving away from their lyrical content, Can’t Swim have provided some really powerful rock grooves that lend a catchy hook instrumentally through the album, so regardless of the dark lyrics the physique of most tracks have an uplifting effect that can leave you confused to be singing along with such anguish based wordings while having a clear head of hearing more major key notes. As you get deeper into the album you start to realise the tracks become less about that happy vibe instrumentally, slowing things down or hitting you with straight chord progressions that let you focus more on the point of the album – break ups and uncertainty of love. Amnesia 666 sees himself questioning “did I love her?” and closing the album with howling cries “Forever in regret” on Winter Of Cicada.

The concept of the album is a very common source of influence, but Can’t Swim have dissected and re-articulated that straight line to create waves and forming a beautiful laid out release. With their short careers there is so much more this band can progress onto be a huge impact for the years to follow.
