The Wind Covenant – Hiraeth

The Wind Covenant are set to release their fantastic new EP Hiraeth on March 8.

Italian metallers The Wind Covenant are set to release new EP Hiraeth on March 8 and as a Welsh person, I was intrigued at whether or not the EP would give me any form of ‘hiraeth’.

Opener Beyond the Mortal Sacrifice is nothing short of a musical masterpiece. It has lovely soaring clean vocals and deep guttural screams, a great breakdown, some stunning guitar lines and awesome drum and bass combinations. It flows together so well.

There are haunting classical elements in lead single The Wonders We Left Behind which sound great and blend well with the deathcore sound of the verses.

I really like the bass line in The Straight and Narrow, as well as the soaring chorus.

At the start of the review I wondered if the EP would give me any form of ‘Hiraeth’ and yes, yes it did. Hiraeth in Welsh culture means a ‘deep longing’ for something and whilst it usually relates to a deep longing for home, Hiraeth the EP has given me a deep longing for more from The Wind Covenant!

It’s heavy but the melodic elements fit perfectly in amongst the heaviness. I can’t wait for more from The Wind Covenant.
