Vicious kicks off the release. Distorted and creepy with warped vocals and a variety of sounds happening around you. The pre-chorus launches you head first into a vicious chorus of crushing guitars. Sonically, the track verges towards some mid career BMTH at points with it’s driving riffs and snarling vocals. Lyrics discussing eating Nazi’s for breakfast and Jeremy Hunt plant the song firmly in Punk territory. It’s an attention grabbing start that you simply can’t ignore.
Give Me The Sun comes more classically punk. A little less weirdness, a load more guitar. It’s an absolutely storming track with plenty of momentum, a surefire live favourite. The colourful lead guitar keeps things interesting throughout while the last chorus pushes the song over the top one last time.
24 Calibre sees us out. Vocals shouting out into the sparse track like a declaration. It builds and builds, over and over throughout. At points some of the textures are almost video game like.
Regardless, the chorus still hits hard with a catchy little lead circling before the vocals come back in once more. Like Vicious, 24 Calibre sees the band stray into weirder territories which makes me only more excited about the prospect of more music from this band before the year is out.
Blitz Pt 1 is a great listen. It’s genuinely exciting to hear a band have some fun messing around with Punk rock like this. It’s a genre that can be thrown in a lot of directions which is what Strange Bones have done right here. Tracks like Vicious and 24 Calibre show a lot of potential for experimentation in the forthcoming EPs in this series. Strange Bones are definitely ones to watch in 2019.
The band are set to play several dates across the UK and Europe this summer. They’re sure to be bringing an energetic performance to a venue near your.
