Stone Sour are set to release new album Hydrograd on June 30. The 15 track record has been highly anticipated and we had a listen to see just how good it is!
YSIF opens with the line ‘hello you bastards’ and immediately, I know I’m going to love this! The intermittent instrumental following the opening line builds anticipation before tapering off at the end of the two minute instrumental with another line of spoken word. The opening riff of Taipei Person – Allah Tea is accompanied by a laugh and a growl before the vocals kick in. It’s a catchy hard rock track. There’s an alien feel to the beginning of Knievel Has Landed and ironically the fifth track on the record is titled Song #3, a melodic track that really shows off Corey Taylor’s vocal range. I think that this is definitely my favourite track on the record.
Skipping forward a few tracks and we have Rose Red Violent Blue (This Song Is Dumb & So Am I) which sounds like a pretty shoddy love poem. I have to disagree though, I don’t think the song is dumb. Whiplash Pants is an angsty track. Closer When The Fever Broke is a melodic, calm closing track.
The entire record is full of super riffs, great vocals and catchy instrumentation. This is a hard rock record that you need to have in your life!
