Rock quintet SEASONS 3rd EP Chapters sees them continue with their chorus focused style of radio rock. Following in the footsteps of bands like Mallory Knox and Young Guns, this EP will definitely please fans of this style. However in today’s music climate the lack of identity on this EP means the band are unlikely to ever reach the heights of their counterparts.
It’s clear from first song Getaway that this EP has been made for radio plays. The hook in the chorus feels somewhat forced and doesn’t stick with you like the best hooks do. The EP is based around big sounding riffs and massive choruses. While often a recipe for success, it just falls short on this EP. The songs aren’t bad by any means, they just don’t have the individuality which is needed to make them stand out. Songs such as Feel Alive suggest some deviation from the simple blueprint used throughout this EP, and hint at a personality that SEASONS as a band are yet to find.
On Chapters, SEASONS don’t make a huge impression as a band. Fans of the UK radio rock style (Mallory Knox, Young Guns etc) will enjoy this EP. It is unlikely however that any songs from this release will be preferred to the best of this genre. It is worth noting that SEASONS are a young band and in time they may find a more unique identity as a band which will help them stand out from others in the scene.
