RØRY – Bloodletting

Lizi absolutely loved Bloodletting, the new album from RØRY!

RØRY really had something to follow after the success of debut album Restoration, and she does not disappoint with Bloodletting.

The opening is a short spoken word intro welcoming listeners to the bloodletting before kicking into an in your face DEGRADATION. It mixes scream vocals with RØRY’s lush melodic vocals and has some sick breakdowns.

Swallow is hands down one of my favourite songs of the year. It really hits hard particularly in the rap part, talking about having to stay strong and bury your mum, something that I’ve been struggling through myself. I really relate to the lyrics, so much so that they had me sobbing.

The chorus in Dead Girl Walking is really catchy and I loved the ferocity of the drums in Mortal.

Hometown is a beautiful song, and so is STRANGE.

Speaking of the album, RØRY said: “I realised I was sick from being nice. I’d spent so much of my life being the bigger person, forgiving people, understanding people, making excuses for people. I’d become disconnected from huge parts of myself. BLOODLETTING was about reclaiming them.”

This comment related a lot to me and I related to the lyrics throughout the album a lot.

RØRY’s vocals were a mix of beautiful and melodic and absolutely brutal screams. There was the odd occasion where the effects seemed to overshadow her talent but it didn’t detract too much.

Bloodletting is one hell of an album. It’s emotional and yet brutal. It’s also inspiring to put yourself first and not be that people pleaser.

I really recommend you check it out.
