REVIEW – The Xcerts – I think I wanna go home now

Lizi had a listen to The Xcerts’ new album I think I wanna go home now!

Scottish alt rockers The Xcerts release new album I think I wanna go home now on July 17.

From the piano-led titular track which is just the title repeated in a strained emotional voice, right through to the closer in your eyes, there’s something to catch everyone.

The first full song is do it to myself. It has some great drum fills and a repetitive chorus that will get fans shouting it back live.

Sinking Feeling is one of the standouts on the album for me. It’s catchy and has relatable lyrics.

Rinse repeat is a brilliantly emotional song. I’m not even ashamed that it brought tears to my eyes. It’s extremely relatable and the calming melodic instrumentation adds an extra layer of atmosphere.

Dream you in is also a beautiful song and really shows off Murray Macleod’s vocal abilities as he has a soft, almost dreamlike tone.

There are some similarities between this new record and earlier The Xcerts, and it’s refreshing to see that despite being a band for 23 years, the trio have revisited yet grown from the likes of Scatterbrain and There is Only You.

If you liked The Xcerts at any point in their career, this is definitely an album you’ll resonate with and appreciate.
