Obeyer released their latest album Chemical Well on November 15 and if you like heavy music, it’s one for you.
I’m a bit hit and miss on the really heavy side of things in all honesty. Sometimes it can sit well and other times it doesn’t.
Obeyer have a solid effort here though!
Chemical Well opens with Witness. The track fuses synth elements with guttural growls and funky bass lines. The calmer, more melodic instrumental towards the end was really nice, building back in intensity.
A Momentary Death’s intro was interesting with a light drum sound and the synths and bass at the halfway point in Second Sun are a nice break before the screams come back in.
I think my favourite part of the album is definitely the more melodic elements as it’s a nice break between the heavier bits and adds variety.
There’s some strong elements in the guitar work throughout including the opening of and throughout Radiant. The drums and bass do a lot of the heavy lifting throughout and the breakdowns are really good.
For me Immaculate was the stand out track. It’s in your face – as is the whole album – but just seems to hit better. I think it’s the combination of more clear growls and the low bassline as well as the brief pauses, groovy drums and the light synth sounds making it an all-round good heavy song.
If you’re into pretty heavy music, you’ll probably enjoy Chemical Well quite a bit. It’s one of the better albums in the genre.
