Myles Kennedy is back with his third album The Art of Letting Go.
The album wastes no time in showing off with a sick riff throughout the intro of the titular track and some intense drums. The layered ‘heys’ are quiet in comparison to the instrumentation but as Myles kicks in with the verse, his distinctive vocals shine through.
The guitar work however, is the standout in the opener. It’s just sick.
Say What You Will is quite catchy and shows off Myles’ signature vocals.
Miss You When You’re Gone is such a lush song. It’s a real modern rock ballad that increases in intensity as the song progresses talking about missing someone when they’re gone. The lyrics can be interpreted by anyone to represent a loved one. As I was listening for the review, the song really hit me hard as I’d just received some not so good news about a loved one and I was able to perfectly relate.
Myles’ vocals during the opening of Behind the Veil are absolutely stunning. It’s a nice change to focus fully on his more melodic tones. The same can be said for Eternal Lullaby. The layered vocals on the latter are stunning. I absolutely love the line “but the question remains, why you chose to leave us in the dark”.
Closer How the Story Ends is a banger. It mixes saucy rock with calming instrumentation and Myles proper shows off his vocal range, with his smooth dulcet tones and more raspy upbeat vocals.
I don’t know what it is but Myles Kennedy really struggles to do anything wrong on his records. The Art of Letting Go is definitely a top pick for 2024. It’s full of incredible riffs, cool drum fills and classic stadium rock put together with his distinctive sultry vocals. Lyrically the whole album is a masterpiece. Myles’ way of telling a story through song is ridiculous. If you’re a fan of Myles Kennedy then you’ll absolutely love this album.
