There is an emotional story behind the creation as the band went into the studio to begin recording in 2015 when lead vocalist Iain Gorrie was diagnosed with testicular cancer that spread to his neck. With help of his family, friends and the NHS, Iain began a long road to recovery and this record is testament to him, the band and all that stood at his side.
Iain explains “I was scheduled to start my course of chemotherapy in January, but a high blood count meant I had to begin just before Xmas. The NHS team who looked after me were brilliant and my then girlfriend (now wife) shaved her head in solidarity with me and raised a load of money for charity in the process”.
With a clean bill of health Our Nameless Boy teamed with label Beth Shalom Records to release this five track EP, which opens with Waste Away, if these guys were in the cub scouts they would have a badge for hardcore emotion. Highlights for me is Once an Island and Nothing on My Mind as Iain Gorrie’s vocals has the feeling of bursting relief throughout this tune and the record to be honest, backed with a great drum beat by Will Purcell.
Our Nameless Boy have a series of live shows in the coming months, including an exclusive release.
Our Nameless Boy are:
Iain Gorrie – Vocals/Guitar
Richie Steadman – Guitar/Vocals
