The last month of the year is sometimes the most surprising and for me it certainly is because I got this new EP to review. Human is the debut EP from The Night Suns. A band formed only last year in London. They’ve spent their time crafting not only this EP but their sound to develop the three track EP we’re talking about today.

Getting straight into things, the EP begins with Smoke. It explores the bands grunge tinges with its fuzzy guitars and tight rhythm work. The vocals come in over top to deliver the hooks that make this song the impressive opener it is. The song breaks into an ambient section before a huge solo cracks the track right open. The songs structure isn’t quite a typical verse chorus bridge which keeps the track interesting when you’re constantly unsure of where the track is headed next. Electronic elements are added to taste on top to finish off the sonic cake the band is working on here.

My Blood Is Cold comes in next, opening eerily with twinkling guitars. Sure enough the song does break out into chaotic guitars and frantic vocals. It’s a song that shows off the bands ability with dynamics while not just feeling like a showcase. They even start to get really weird towards the last half of the track with strange electronic elements. It’s really the band’s way of bringing their more experimental influences to the forefront.

Final track, Human, opens almost like a Placebo track with vocals and chiming guitars accompanied by weird synths tucked in the back. This last song stands out with it’s almost dreamy guitars and chanting pre choruses. This one is definitely my favourite track on the EP and is the very definition of finishing on a high note. It’s hard to describe just why it’s good. All I can say is listen to it.

The Night Suns are definitely one to watch in the future! Just from these three tracks you can tell the band is headed somewhere and I can’t wait to see where that is. The EP is available now, go check it out!

I'm Nathan, I'm based in South East England and I'm a huge music fan. When I'm not making music of my own I'm listening to a wide variety of music from Pop to Rock to Metal and beyond. My top three bands would have to be the Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo and My Chemical Romance although there are so many other great bands but so little time to list them!
