Parisian quintet Merge are set to release debut album Ineffable on December 2. The band have been touring Europe with Don Broco and provide an exciting brand of alt-rock. We take a look at their debut record;

Opening track The Exit has an atmospheric sound and frontman Max Rodriguez-Medallo’s impressive vocal range is shown off from the start, at times reaching notes that most vocalists could only dream of. The track feels more pop than rock at times but it is still really good and a strong opening track. The Password is a great song, one that would definitely transfer over to a live setting very well. Soaring was chosen as one of the singles from the record and is about never giving up. The piano opening leads into the deception of a calm track, while this is what you get at the start, as the drums kick in, the intensity builds, as if you are soaring. A very cleverly put together track.

The band’s take on alt-rock is refreshing, there is more of an emphasis on creating an atmospheric record. This is a genuinely great debut from the Parisians.
