MAKEOUT – The Good Life

Where’s My Charger 100% reminds me of the 5 Seconds Of Summer Pizza song. It’s about the same length (just 25 seconds) and is about something that is relevant to the majority of the audience, with 5SOS’ being about how much they like pizza (who doesn’t?) and Makeout‘s being about that panic of trying to […]

Makeout have been a new favourite here at AltCorner since we first heard their debut single Crazy! So as their debut Rise Records album The Good Life is set for release on Friday, what better time than to have a listen to the full thing?

Childish begins with a flurry of riffs and drums. It echoes Airplane Conversations/Cluster era Waterparks with it’s lightheartedness. The catchiness of Crazy is what drew a lot of people to the band. Lisa is an upbeat break-up song.

Latest single Ride It Out really shows off Sam Boxold’s vocals which are truly brilliant. You Can’t Blame Me brings things down a notch with a calmer ballad. Secrets has also been released as a video and it’s a pretty hilarious acoustic track! A complete change from the usual sad lyrics you find with acoustics.

Where’s My Charger 100% reminds me of the 5 Seconds Of Summer Pizza song. It’s about the same length (just 25 seconds) and is about something that is relevant to the majority of the audience, with 5SOS’ being about how much they like pizza (who doesn’t?) and Makeout‘s being about that panic of trying to find your charger when your phone is only on 1%. It’s short and funny, probably bordering on silly, but it’s brilliant! Closer Blast Off rounds the album off well.

Throughout the tracks on the album, there are little spoken word bits that add a bit of humour, for example, throughout Lisa, the chorus is “I hate you Lisa” then at the end there’s “no wait come back”. The vocals from Sam throughout are truly outstanding. The album is catchy and blends pop-punk with pop-rock to create an upbeat, fun-filled record. The album was described by Sam as a party and he’s right. If you don’t love this album, then I’m not sure you understand fun and enjoyment!

9.5/10
