Review: Greywind – Antidote

Greywind are back with new EP Antidote and have given us a fantastic treat!

Greywind are back as an independent duo and have been setting social media – particularly TikTok – alight. I was a fan of the band a few years ago so very excited to see where they have gone with Antidote.

Swing and Sway is immediately atmospheric and showcases Steph’s stunning vocals. Lyrically the track touches on Paul’s feelings when watching Steph – his sister and bandmate – going through a suicidal period and being in a very dark place when they were in the early days of their career.

Antidote itself is more upbeat with its instrumentation, at times sounding like it wouldn’t be out of place in any pop punk album but lyrically it is quite dark, talking about going to watch someone die in a hospital room and is according to Steph is “full of all our rage”. It’s a very catchy track and honestly, I love it.

Glimmer and Deathwish both have extremely catchy choruses, with the lyrics living rent free in my head. Closing track You’re My Medicine ties the EP up nicely and is a track I’d love to hear live.

Greywind have hit the spot with Antidote. The whole EP is so well put together and you can clearly tell that having the freedom of being independent is best for the duo as this EP is definitely their best work to date. It’s catchy, with huge poppy choruses and some really fun instrumentation which offsets the dark tones of the lyrics really well.
