The opening melodies from the titular track are Freddie Mercury-esque with soaring vocals before kicking in with a spoken-word introduction emphasising the time (2:10 in the morning). The track then kicks into a grungey chorus. It’s not a good start to the record for me as it’s not really my cup of tea.
Luckily for me, I Am the Lightning is a much stronger track. I love the distorted guitars and it sounds good as a proper indie track.
Nowhere Kid and Neverending Moment are also good tracks, with Neverending Moment being the stand out of the album for me.
Bad Blood transports you back to the early 2000s, with its catchy indie rock sound, dual vocals and a hook that sticks in your head.
I wish I could like Dream Machine more than I do, because it is a good record, but I’m just not fully into the indie rock scene. Des Rocs’ vocals are fab, particularly in In The Night.
