In a few days’ time, Beware of Darkness will be releasing their latest album Are You Real?
Looking at the titles of the track (as well as listening to them, of course), I’d say that this album has a urban/street kind of feel, only without hip hop. It certainly has that kind theme, to put it simply.
Anyway, the first track is Muthafucka, and I have to say, it’s one bad ass track. It reminds me a lot of Motley Crue’s album Saints of Los Angeles, whether they were an inspiration or not. Even the vocalist sounds similar to Vince Neil. Also, I can’t help but think of them when I hear the lines “Motherfucker, I’m back from the dead. I’m about to raise hell”. That being said, they’re definitely not a carbon-copy, as any fan of Motley Crue most likely wouldn’t mistake this track as theirs. But regardless, this track’s instrumentals, lyrics and vocals are bad ass, and you might just feel like one when you listen to it.
Next up, we have Blood Sex Violence & Murder. This track is about, well, what you see in the title. However, it also compares life as a child when the world seemed innocent, to life as an adult and seeing its true colours. At least there’s a little more to the track than just singing about violence and sex.
Next up is Dope. It’s somewhat of a flirtatious track (though not exactly a love song), complimenting a woman for being “dope”. I’m not entirely sure what that word means, but it sounds like it might be a compliment.
And finally, we have Summer Daze. I enjoy the melody and beat of this song, and I’d say it’s probably my favourite. It’s a very feel-good kind of track, which makes all the more enjoyable. If you like chilled, feel-good songs, then I’d give this one a listen.
In conclusion, I’d say that if you’re a fan of Motley Crue, then you might enjoy this album too. I’d certainly recommend it if you’re a fan of Saints of Los Angeles. Are You Real? is badass, cool and a great listen overall. Plus, you may just want to be in Los Angeles when you hear this.
