‘Night Sky‘ is the glittering debut LP from Yorkshire rockers Of Allies. It’s an album full of hard-hitting, slap you in the face, heavy Brit-rock.
Although Of Allies are a relatively young band, they’ve gained attention from Kerrang!, Marshall Amps, BBC Radio 1, and BBC Introducting – and this album was entirely crowdfunded. It’s easy to see why they’re well loved from the opening track.
The album opens with title track, ‘Night Sky‘ and immediately you get a taste of how atmospheric this band’s music is. Vocalist Rich Nichols carries the track with his powerful and atmospheric voice. Moving to a big anthemic chorus, it’s difficult to see how a band can achieve this level of musical maturity on just their debut album. Not just their musical ability, but the writing lyrically on the album is dynamic and emotive throughout, only adding to the album’s atmosphere.
The band switch between heavy rock, melodic rock, and dark alt rock seamlessly, creating a layered and distinctive sound. Of Allies‘ style is powerful and heavy, but melodic riffs, powerful and driving drums, and soulful singing. This is present throughout the stellar 14-track album, but the band have enough variety to keep things interesting. Although sticking to their Breaking Benjamin-esque influences, they range from rampaging rage in songs like ‘CMD-Q‘ and ‘Collapse‘ to more calmer tunes like ‘17‘ and ‘Run‘.
The album is set for release on November 17th, and Of Allies are touring the album later this year, see here for more.
