South Wales’ premier music festival Swn Festival is celebrating it’s tenth anniversary in 2016! The three-day festival of music and arts runs from October 21-23 across several venues in the capital and features a whole host of Welsh talent as well as up and coming names from across the UK.
The idea was to create a condensed version of South By South West after organisers John Rostron and Huw Stephens took a trip to the festival. The first year, November 2007, saw 100 bands and a then unknown DJ, Annie Mac take to the stage in several venues across Cardiff, and the rest they say is history.
Today, the festival is one of the main focus points on the Welsh music calendar, having hosted acts such as The Cribs, Alt J, The Vaccines and even Disclosure shortly before they went massive and including winning Best Small Festival from NME in 2013 before 2014 saw the introduction of the sister festival DimSwn, a smaller, one day event which is now a regular fixture in the spring.
To celebrate the festival’s tenth anniversary, they have a whole host of surprises up their sleeves and the first 30 acts have been announced: Alun Gafferty + Ultra Dope, Ani Glass, April Towers, Bryde, Chorusgirl, Derrero, Falls, Fenne Lily, Field Studies, Gallops, Giorgio Tuma, Girl Ray, Himalayas, Kayla Painter, Mandy, Martha Ffion, Meilyr Jones, Melys, MiNNETONKA, Mumbleman, Silent Forum, Sports Team, Tail Feather, The Cradles, The Gentle Good, Tigana, We’re No Heroes, Winter Coat, Wolf Girl and Yan Hender.
