Arcadia Grey take on the A-Z Challenge

Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many artists out there. Here it’s the turn of Arcadia Grey to tell us all about themselves.

In today’s A-Z challenge, we asked Arcadia Grey 26 questions to find out all about them!

A song that made you want to make music?

Definitely El Scorcho by Weezer

Best rider you have had?

We got Monster and flaming hot Cheetos once, that was rad.

Craziest moment in the band?

Being direct support for Glass Beach on their full US tour.

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

Personally in Halley, when Cora sings “shocker but your grandsons a granddaughter, I should’ve told you sooner they say bloods thicker than water, Mom says this will keep me out of heaven so I guess I’ll get to know you in hell.

Easiest song you wrote?

Probably Konami Code off of Konami Code

Favourite song in your set?

Currently love playing Dwight 512

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

Would KILL to have Justin Peirre from Motion City Soundtrack or Stefon from PuP feature.

Hardest thing about being in a band?

Keeping motivation high even when things are slow. Its so easy to feel like your art means nothing to know one, But there will always be someone who is out there supporting you.

Interesting fact about one of your members?

Cooper is a cryptid. Lol. I, Nat, lived in Japan for two years.

Jokes you have in the band?

We have a lot of lil games and characters in the band. We love to play the worst snorer, where right before we go to bed on tour, we all pretend to snore the worst, and it gets pretty chaotic. We also have a character named Grog that we use as a template for jokes. Imagine a large green orc named Grog who lives a normal life but can only speak in first person. “Grog has go pay alimony next month.”

Key to writing a song?

It’s a numbers game. Just keep writing music, you will get better with time.

Longest distance you’ve traveled to play a show?

For the Glass Beach tour, we drove from Chicago to Washington to play the first show of the tour. It took 3 days.

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

For me, it was listening to Weezer‘s Pinkerton and Blue album for the first time. It was so inspiring to made me want to start a band.

New band you’d recommend?

Combat, combat, COMBAT. Best band in the scene rn.

Opening for this band would be ideal?

Prince Daddy and The Hyena would be a dream come true. Would absolutely kill to!

Place you’d most like to tour?

I’d love to get over to the UK and tour with our friends in the losing score over there. It would be just absolutely spectacular!

Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?

Trans lives matter!

Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?

Casually crashing. This idea that the most chaotic world-ending events are happening around us, to us, but we have to keep moving forward and live our lives like nothing is going on.

See us live at?

On our upcoming tour with Leisure Hour, Combat, Kerosene Heights on our way down to The Fest in Florida.

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Fuck no. Music is evolving and growing with the time. Good music is music that stands the test of time and grows with it. I think there is bad music from before my time, and great music. Just as I think there is now. But living in the past does not create good art. And continuing to live in the past and being ignorant to new stuff is just naive. I think we can learn from past music to create even better newer music.

Unusual merchandise?

I don’t think we’ve sold any unusual merch, but I’d buy mouse pads if bands sold them.

Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?

I think a lot of our songs are really flexible and we tend to do different variations on all of them when we perform live. No song is played the same twice.

What do your fans mean to you?

The whole fucking world. We really wouldn’t be able to continue this without them. They are as much the band as we are.

X-rays or any other treatments needed for band injuries?

I can say that none of us have experienced any band related injuries, My knees hurt a little bit more than they used to. But for good reason.

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

All of us. We are a team, so if we are late, it’s on all of us.

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?

A fucking big ass polar bear. Those creatures are fucking awesome
