Opening with the titular track, Himalayas kick off with a sick rock track. It has dirty riffs and wavering vocals.
Somebody Else is extremely catchy, with a repetitive chorus which works well. I like the guitar work in Mistakes and the vocal melodies in The Mirror.
Flatline has a sound similar to The Struts at times, but a much darker, rockier sound and has a great guitar solo. It’s very much a radio-rock song.
I remember catching a Himalayas set at Reading Festival in 2018 and being impressed by them then, but the Cardiff rockers have shown true progression here, emphasising their talents. The songs gave a distinct rock feel about them that’s been missing in many albums in the genre recently. For such a young band, they’ve put together a very well-structured record which has a lot of good songs in it and is thoroughly enjoyable.
I highly recommend checking this one out!
