This month Short Stories take the spotlight as our band of the month. Check out why we think you should be giving them a listen.
Words: Kirsty Johnston
Short Stories are an Emotional Post-Hardcore band from San Diego, California. The band have released two EP’s and an album. The album is called ‘Only Time Will Tell’ which features a total of 11 tracks which was released on April 2015. The EP’s are ‘Theoria’ and ‘When Love Is Lost’ and both hold a number of 5 tracks each. ‘When Love Is Lost’ was released November 2013 and ‘Theoria’ was released recently on January 2017.
People should definitely check these guys out as they are so similar to a load of popular bands such as Seaway and a little influence of State Champs too. I would say Short Stories are more pop punk sounding which is even better and an even bigger reason for people to give them a listen. The band have all music on bandcamp and are on all forms of social media so you can connect and check them out from there. All music is free to stream online which gives you an insight into their music before buying.
Tony Silva, lead vocalist, kindly answered some questions for Alt Corner, here’s what they said:
Describe yourself in 3 words for people that don’t know you:
If I had to describe myself in 3 words , they would have to be : Emotional, Loving, and Dreamer
What band/album made you want to get into music?
The band that made me realize that I wanted to create music for the rest of my life was definitely “Blink 182” they saved my life as a depressed adolescent. And specifically the album “Dude Ranch” changed my life from being a fan of music , to someone that wanted to be an artist.
What was the first gig you attended?
My very first concert I attended was when I was in eighth grade. It was the pop disaster tour. Blink 182 and Green Day co-headlined and Jimmy Eat World opened. It was a great first experience to live music , and in my opinion, doesn’t get much better.
If you could only listen to one album forever, what would it be?
This one is a tough one. While I’m tempted to say Dude Ranch because it’s my favorite album of all time , I think I’m going to have to go with “The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show”. I would still get to listen to all the Dude Ranch songs (being performed by Travis being a huge plus as well) and also the rest of their catalogue. Not to mention the live stage banter. So ya , if could only listen to 1 album for the rest of my life I’d choose “The Mark , Tom , and Travis Show”.
What is the best thing about being in a band?
The best thing about being in a band for me is being able to inspire emotions to anyone and everyone. Whether it’s hope, love , or even a mutual sadness. Being able to sing about my tragedies and triumphs and people relating to my experiences with their own. And just being able to let people know they are not alone. The emotional connection, whether it’s by someone listening to the record or being able to share the moment of our live performance is the most rewarding feeling in the world to me. I just love inspiring people in anyway I can.
