This EP was a real pleasure to both listen to and review. The EP begins with the track ‘Lost Your Way’ which is an ideal choice for an opener due to its infectious guitar intro which will be thoroughly engraved into your skull within a few listens. The rest of the song gradually builds up in tempo resulting in a big finale in the form of a ‘pop-punk’ meets ’emo’ styled breakdown. (believe me it’s good!)
The EP is a mature yet fun effort, which is surprising considering this is their first release. Its diversity is where ‘Progress’ really excels, providing something for everyone. There are the faster paced punk rock songs such as ‘Lost Your Way’ and ‘Progress’ then, the more slower and melancholy but equally as brilliant “Familliar Strangers” and “Juan”.
The composition and song structures are something which really showcase just how talented Weak Knees are. They create songs which progress (pardon the pun!) and link well and it is a testament to their bond as a band that they do this with such ease.
My personal favourite tracks are “Far From Home” and “Progress” but it was a real tough choice as it’s a release which doesn’t have one song that is below par. It’s a thoroughly interesting listen throughout and it sets Weak Knees up for a very, very bright future.
