Taking Back Sunday are set to release their new album titled Tidal Wave on the 16th of September 2016. Formed in 1999, they’re a rock quintet from Long Island, New York. The band consists of Adam Lazzara (vocals), Eddie Reyes (guitar), John Nolan (guitar/vocals), Shaun Cooper (Bass) and Mark O’Connell (drums). Unbelievably, this new release will be their seventh album.
Title track Tidal Wave is very different to the rest of the album. The track opens with more of a pop-punky sound with catchy drum beats. I’m already hooked on the chorus, singing along after only two spins as it is very catchy “No, no, no you don’t know” and “nothing’s gonna save you from the Tidal Wave” with some impressive guitar riffs. Adam’s vocals are strong and lively throughout the song. The track is very energetic from the verses to the chorus.
Another track is All Excess. I really like the backing vocals in this song as they are very clear and melodic. The guitar riff and bass line is very good in this song. Again they have successfully got another catchy chorus.
I Felt It Too takes a step back from the more energetic and faster pace of the other tracks on the album. This track includes a much slower sound and makes this song stand out a little bit as it does sound different from the rest of the album. The melodic blend of vocals and backing vocals from both Adam and John is beautiful. “I’m never going back there” is a lyric that gets repeated a fair bit and it is my favourite lyric.
The next track is Call Come Running, this track opens with a short guitar riff. Throughout the song, the guitar line is strong and also the bassline is quite good too in this track. The drums beats are superb especially in the chorus.
Next up is We Don’t Go In There, this track starts beautifully with an acoustic opening which highlights the angelic vocals and how Adam can change his vocal range to any song. The drums were the main thing that caught my attention when the song kicks in, they’re powerful with great beats. The mixture of the electric guitar riffs and the soft melodic sound of an acoustic guitar is great in this song as it makes the track stand out.
As a whole, the tracks mold together beautifully with a mixture of fast paced and slow paced songs. The lyrics in all the songs are very catchy, I had a few in my head for days! The vocals were incredible and definitely one of the top things about this album. The drums, guitars and bass were also impressive. Go check it out, you guys don’t want to miss this well-written album.
