Hailing from Milan, Italy, Lacuna Coil are veterans of the metal world after releasing their debut album 17 years ago. Breaking the mould and having the double vocals of Andrea and Cristina has only helped the band go from strength to strength. The mixed vocal has also made them stand out from the crowd. Their latest release, Delirium, being their eighth studio album, will only make their fan base increase.
Single and opening track “House of Shame” is a real in your face song. Musically it is a lot heavier than previous songs. Andrea’s growl mixed with Cristina’s operatic style voice gives you a good old kick and it jump starts the atmosphere that is felt throughout the album. This heavier theme continues throughout the album with songs such as “Blood, Tears and Dust” and “Ghost in the Mist”. Cristina’s sinister vocals really deliver the passion through the slower, more haunting songs of “Delirium”, “Downfall” and “You Love Me Cause I Hate You”. While you have “Take Me Home” and “Ultima Ratio” showing the band experimenting with their sound more with the added electronics and synth. “My Demons and “Claustrophobic” take you back to pure metal and produce outstanding guitar solos.
Over the years Lacuna Coil have really developed their talents, and Delirium is their heaviest to date. However, the change in line up could have been a factor in the musical change but it could also be that they are still growing as people and artists and want to try other forms. As per usual vocals from the duo are on point and the heavy guitar riffs just cement their place in the metal world and even rock and roll history. Delirium is truly a fantastically, dark and heavy wonderland that will no doubt please new and old fans alike.
