Kid Kapichi brought their There Goes the Neighbourhood Tour to The Waterfront in Norwich, accompanied by Dead Pony and Dumb Buoys Fishing Club.

Opening the night was Dead Pony, an emerging Scottish anti-punk band, a stellar addition to the lineup. They kicked off their performance with a rendition of The Prodigy’s renowned track ‘Voodoo People,’ instantly igniting the crowd’s enthusiasm and setting the tone for the evening.

Vocalist Anna Shields’ interaction with the crowd, and dancing around the stage was enjoyable to watch and I can imagine it’s not always easy when you’re the opening band, but these guys killed it. Their drummer Euan Lyons was positioned at the front, I’m guessing this was purely because of the lack of space due to Kid Kapichi’s set up, but I rate it as it brings drummers more into focus.

Dead Pony concluded their set with ‘MANA‘, a tough job but they managed to get the whole crowd on the floor to jump, I rarely see that many people get involved when bands do this, so I found that quite impressive. It’s a big shame that the crowd hadn’t filled up yet as I feel like Dead Pony should have and would have gained many new fans.

Taking the stage next was Dumb Buoys Fishing Club. I wasn’t familiar with their music prior to this performance, so was genuinely surprised when it started, it was a complete flip to what we had witnessed prior and what was to follow, it initially felt quite unfitting, however, they managed engage the audience, successfully drawing in attendees who were still trickling into the venue.

The Waterfront had finally filled up giving the impression of a sell-out crowd, if it wasn’t one already. Kid Kapichi blew the roof off The Waterfront from the moment they stepped on to the stage and went straight into ‘Artillery’. During a brief moment of technical difficulties, the crowd started a chant of “f*ck the Tories” which I 100% expected to happen multiple times at this show.

Midway through the performance, the acoustic guitar made its appearance, signalling the arrival of ‘Party At No. 10′, a song which if you couldn’t guess by the title is written about the parties that the Conservatives held during lockdown, prior to playing this, frontman Jack Wilson made a heart-warming speech about unity and shared purpose among everyone present, despite the prevailing negativity and injustice in the world. “we say f*ck the Tories. Free Palestine”, underscoring the band’s commitment to political activism and human rights. While Kid Kapichi are renowned for their political stance, I believe advocating for human rights should be a universal endeavour, uniting us all under a common cause.

Dumb Buoys Fishing Club joined Kid Kapichi on stage for their track ‘New England’ which features Bob Vylan. So, it definitely made sense to bring someone out for this, and obviously the crowd was stoked. Closing their set with ‘Smash The Gaff’ the energy remained electric for the entire show. It’s safe to say that everyone in attendance thoroughly enjoyed themselves, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.
