Ion Dissonance – Cast The First Stone

Their first album since 2010, Ion Dissonance are back with Cast The First Stone. Described as an album that ‘doesn’t fuck about,’ the band have put together something that sets out to show them at their best. Their brutal and technical style has been praised for bringing something next level to the music sphere and this time round that’s exactly what they have set out to do once again.

The album kicks starts with Burdens, a track that certainly doesn’t hold back whatsoever. From second one the screaming vocals mixed with heavy drums and guitars are all up in your face, or ears and don’t give you a second to breathe. It’s loud and there is certainly no mistaking what the band are about.

Following tracks, The Truth Will Set You Free and To Expiate, have room in them for brief musical sections that really show off the bands musicality and technical ability to create solid riffs and the passion that they have for their music. There is something about those moments in a track that have no vocals that can often expose more than lyrics can ever do.

The album progress with more of the same with no real let up, other than with Untitled II which is purely instrumental. There is absolutely no getting away from those vocals and riffs. The band have got their sound nailed and know exactly what they are best at.

Speaking about the album, frontman Kevin said “It is certainly no secret that our band has encountered its fair share of obstacles through this 15-year journey, leading us to remain inactive for the better part of the last six years. With that being said, we look forward to a fresh start, and couldn’t ask for a better fit than the relationship established with the Good Fight family. The professionalism, dedication, support and hard work going into this record is so much more positive than our previous experiences thus far.” It’s clear that the band have really given their all here.

Ion Dissonance are a band that for some may be an acquired taste, however for those who love the genre they are one to add to the playlist. They are loud, passionate and dedicated to their work. A solid effort.
