Finger trap are a quartet from the Welsh mountains of South Wales (Pontypridd, Mountain Ash and Abercynon). The band are set to release their new single “Body Popping” on the 28th of October. Founded in 2012, they consist of Sion Carver (Lead Vocals/Piano), Jimmy Parfitt (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals), Nicholas Savage (Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals) and Frankie Allart (Drums/Backing Vocals). Their genre is Pop, Rock and Alternative.
This song was written about Sion’s first ever night out drinking with his brothers in Cardiff when he turned 18 years old. The song references his insecurities with dancing in front of other people, however as the night goes on and the more intoxicated he becomes, he finally overcomes his reservations and masters the art of the ultimate dance move…The BODY POP. It is commonly associated with club music. With this in mind the band wanted the track to be a tune that people could dance and bust a move to.
From the opening of the track you know this track is going to be a very lively and energetic funk tune. The vocals are impressive and after one spin you realise that they’re very catchy and get stuck in your head. By the second time, you can’t help but sing along. The guitar riffs and bass line are very groovy in this track. Whilst the lead vocals are impressive, there are some good backing vocals coming for the rest of the band, which is nice to see that the whole band are letting their melodic vocals be heard. “But there was one thing I had yet to learn…and that’s Body Popping” is the lyric that gets stuck in my head. This track and the video for it is definitely one of my favourites this year. As a whole, the vocals, piano, guitar and bass all mould beautifully together to make this impressive, catchy track.
