Yes, it is already that time of year again. Another 12 months has gone by, the festive season is in full swing and the question of ‘what do you want for Christmas?’ is on everybody’s lips.

Here at Alt Corner we aim to provide some inspiration for what you could buy for that music lover in your life, or to give you some ideas for what you’d like to see land under the tree this Christmas.

VINYL:

It was recently revealed that vinyl sales had overtaken that of digital formats in the UK for the first time ever. The recent surge in vinyl popularity means many bands are releasing onto the format and many are releasing special and limited editions. Whether it’s to be kept for display or played over and over, everyone has a band they love and surely wouldn’t mind getting their hands on a bit of vinyl.

RECORD PLAYER (Words by Emma Wilkin):

If you are buying someone vinyl, there you might just want to give them something to play it on!

Now what do I play my precious records on I hear you ask? The answer is quite simply Lenco L-85, it’s affordable at £120 yet although entirely made of plastic don’t despair as it comes in a range of (sometimes gaudy) colours and is well rated by Record Collector magazine. It also looks modern, slim lined and will be sure to take pride of place in your home/bedroom/anywhere. And for those who like too Insta their vinyl choices this is also the player for you.

And on the other hand one you may think twice about buying is the Crosley. Although very popular and well sold in the likes of Urban Outfitters and Argos it is pretty much pants. It seems to be great value for money as an all in one” player but don’t be fooled! Audio priorities are second place and poorly built. I naively bought one as a Christmas gift last year for my mother and it broke half way through January… the adaptor was cheap as hell and just packed up.

Save your money folks and invest wisely.

FESTIVAL/GIG TICKETS:

Who doesn’t love live music? With so many bands including the likes of Moose Blood, A Day To Remember, State Champs all having announced tours for 2017 you are spoilt for choice, and then there’s all the great festivals across the summer too! The plus side of buying tickets; you can get two and tag along yourself – all being that they choose to take you along too! The live music scene is so important, so why not get involved and support it whilst giving a great Christmas present.

POSTER OR PRINT

They are classy and personal and often the simplest of gifts can be the most special. Websites such as Etsy, Not On The Highstreet, as well as specialised artists, offer a whole range of personalised lyric and music prints that would be perfect as a gift for someone that loves music. Many offer the chance to transform someones favourite song or lyrics into a beautifully created piece of artwork that would perfect hung on a bedroom or living room wall. See below for just some of the options available.

Both available from Notonthehighstreet.com

A PLAYLIST

If you’re being romantic or it’s simply for a friend, there is nothing more personal than a playlist of hand-picked songs for someone. Be it and old school mix-tape or mix-cd or even mix-USB to a playlist that you can constantly update created on a streaming service, there are so many options of how to create one. So, get on your thinking cap and get creative – including their favourite bands, songs, tracks that remind you of them, songs you’ve listened too together.
