The Story Behind ReVerbed’s ‘Another Year, Still Here’ Artwork

“When we were half way through recording this E.P, we came so close to packing it all in,” recalls Zoë Waugh, guitarist and co-vocalist of Doncaster born, Brighton based pop rock quartet, ReVerbed; “Ultimately, we couldn’t bring ourselves to give up on six years of hard work. So, we are still here, still strong and still loving what we do.”

So, we are still here, still strong and still loving what we do.” ReVerbed’s latest release, the appropriately titled Another Year, Still Here, sees the self-proclaimed ‘road dogs’ going back to their roots, drawing on the likes of Jimmy Eat World and Taking Back Sunday for inspiration.

Now they discuss the creation of the artwork, ahead of it’s release on Oct 23rd…

Our artwork for this EP ‘Another Year, Still Here’ was designed by our very own vocalist and guitarist Zoe. She has actually created all the artwork for any of our releases. It’s very handy to have someone with a creative eye within the band. She often comes to us with ideas and concepts and then then with our input that inspires other ideas so we tend to create it together and then Zoe brings it to life.

Listen to ‘Bury Me’ Here:

As we’ve said so many times along the way, we wanted to really think about everything with this EP and the artwork was no exception. We wanted something simple, with a much brighter feel than our previous artwork. We wanted something the represented us as a band whilst also reflecting the EP name, but without trying to be to cliché and obvious, which is always a difficult! We drafted out so many ideas, ranging from: a montage of our 6 years together, inspired by the style of Gnarwolves’ ‘The Chronicles of Garnia’; or something simplistic like While She Sleeps ‘This Is The Six’ single artwork… none of which developed much past ideas in our heads!

After a while we were sat at Josh’s and after a while of silence, racking our brains, Zoe said “why don’t we hand write a word each and hold it in front of our faces, to show its about us, how we’ve done it and made it through, why don’t we make it ourselves?” To which drummer Josh said “yeah, we built it with our own hands!” and with that the idea united us, like a connected that light bulb that just got switched on. It was simple, pick a hand, pick a word and pick up a sharpie!

Looking back on it, what I like is that you can tell which hand belongs to who, they’re all unique, but together. We then decided to have the hands all surrounding our keyhole logo which links it to traditional ReVerbed, whilst adding a fresh feel too. We are really pleased with how it turned out and believe it encompasses everything we wanted without trying to be too clever.
