Nottingham based trio, Some Skeletons are pleased to announce that their debut album ‘Vigils’ is to be released through Mountains Of Records on Friday 4th December 2015. The partnership between band and label follows on from the previous release of their second EP ‘And Signs & Ampersands‘ in 2012.

Vigils‘ will be available through the Lincolnshire based independent record label on CD and Digital Download.

Pre-Orders coming soon.

“We’re really excited to get Vigils out there and see what people think of it” says guitarist, Aidan Blenkinsopp. “It’s the product of a fun bundle of intense hard work and hopefully captures the essence of our band – melody, noise and slapdash intricacy. We hope people enjoy being immersed in the little world we’ve created.”

Some Skeletons are an emotional, melancholic alternative rock band. Drawing influences from Idlewild, And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Mew, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins and Brand New. Some Skeletons have developed a sound that not only suits the individuals in the band but a sound that is big, bold, intricate and compelling. Having formed from the ashes of Thousands of Reflections in early 2011, the group, who all met at Nottingham University, are now planning for the release of their debut album, ‘Vigils‘.

Originally, Some Skeletons were formed as a quartet, but due to changes in real-life circumstances, original guitar player, Adam, had to move away from Nottingham, and thus cut his involvement with the band in early 2013. The group set about going on as a three piece and started work on the new material for ‘Vigils‘. Songwriting was going well, but towards the end of 2013, James, the drummer, was knocked off his bike by a car and the incident was nearly fatal. It caused serious damage to his shoulder which meant he couldn’t drum for several months, setting the writing process for the album back by quite some time. Thankfully, he’s still around to tell the tale.

Loosely inspired by the novel ‘On The Beach’ by Neville Shute, but far less apocalyptic, the debut album, ‘Vigils‘ is a concept, set in a small coastal town in the early 90s, which has been experiencing some unexplained events. The songs relate to how the people in the town act as a result. “For my part, I grew up on the south coast, and a lot of my friends live in small towns around there, so I’ve tried to incorporate elements of that there – mainly partying on beaches, local busybodys and town meetings” says lyricist, Aidan. “Also there’s quite a lot of references to fictional geographical locations that are based on places I know from my youth.”

Vigils‘ was recorded, mixed and produced at the University Of Lincoln by Luke Pickering.

It was mastered by Troy Glessner at Spectre Studios, Renton, Washington USA.

Vigils‘ is available on CD and Digital Download through Mountains Of Records from Friday 4th December 2015.

Hi I'm Gareth, A foolish Welshman that has found himself living in Scotland. I adore live music and this all started back in University when a friend dragged me along to my first gig and I saw Travis. From then on I spent a lot of time going to see bands from rubbish uni bands that had formed one drunken night to the mighty Blur. When I finished uni there was a 10 year gap between gigs (long story). Now though, on any given day of the week I can be found in the venues of Glasgow. With regards to my music taste I love anything with great lyrics and heavy drums. When I was younger (and still am) I was obsessed with a band called Alisha's Attic.
When not at a gig I will be found at my computer playing games like Prison Architect, Hearthstone and Wolfenstein.
