Records to get excited for: April 29 edition

Here is our weekly roundup of some of the records we’re really excited for across the alternative music world!

Machine Head – ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN

Machine Head will release new album ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN on June 28 through Nuclear Blast x Imperium Recordings.

It is a 13-track concept album set in a decimated futuristic wasteland where the sky is stained crimson red. The crux of the story is based around 2 main characters.

Character #1 Ares: (pronounced Aries), our lead, who loses the love of his life (Amethyst) and goes on a murderous rampage against the vile sect responsible for her murder.
Character #2 Eros: (pronounced Arrows) the perpetrator, who loses his mother to a drug overdose and becomes radicalized in the aftermath. Eros goes off the deep end manifesting his own killing spree.
Rob Flynn said: “Thanks to my two teenage boys, my family has become obsessed with this awesome Japanese anime series called ‘Attack On Titan.’ The album’s concept was loosely inspired by the series in the sense that in the storyline, there is no “good” or “bad” guy – both characters believe they’re doing the right thing as it applies to their being. But make no mistake, both are committing acts of pure atrocity and evil. The opening track ‘SLAUGHTER THE MARTYR’ is basically our character #1’s origin story.”

Tracklist:

1. SLAUGHTER THE MARTYR

Lit – Tastes Like Gold

Lit will release new album Tastes Like Gold on June17 through Round Hill Records.

Guitarist Jeremy Popoff said: “We wanted to get back to the old school Lit sound with a modern day approach to the production. It took a minute to get our heads in the right place, especially with all of the craziness going on in the world. We started writing and making demos with Carlo Colasacco and YOUTHYEAR and we knew we had tapped into the vibe we were looking for. Tastes Like Gold is the album we wanted to make.”

Upon A Burning Body – Fury

Upon A Burning Body will release new EP Fury on May 6 through Seek & Strike.

Guitarist Ruben Alvarez said: After listening to the complete album we knew we had created something that represents what the band stands for on and off stage. Fury is a whole new monster. We’ve always been a band that experiments and Fury is definitely the stamp we needed on our own signature sound. We brought in elements from our first three albums and mixed them with our last two. If you like the heavy rifts from Red, White and Green or the groove of Southern Hostility, then you are going to be stoked on this!

“The biggest change on this album is Danny and my younger brother, Thomas Alvarez. Now having three biological brothers writing and performing together, what more can you ask for? Thomas has already brought so much to the table; helping us as a song-writer since Southern Hostility and now adding another vocal element. He has brought a ton of fresh ideas and writing has never been easier.

Upon A Burning Body have been through a lot of changes throughout the years and we have come full circle back to our roots. We are ready to keep pushing forward on our albums and live performances. Fury is definitely a huge step for us to show the world that we are here to stay and American Heavy Metal is alive and stronger than ever!”

Krause – The Art of Fatigue

Krause will release new album The Art of Fatigue on May 20 through Venerate Industries.

The band said: The tracks are essentially about urban decay and our disgust with politics, society and human life amidst the pandemic and the ongoing crisis. We are all rather misanthropic and pessimistic as people, so our lyrics tend to either be stories of urban isolation or reflect our disappointment with our own selves and humanity under capitalism. Our opinions were confirmed by the financial crisis and the resultant global situation, so I don’t see our themes changing any time soon.

“When we started Krause, all we wanted was to create an atmosphere and tone more than follow a style or genre. In our case, this harks back to the Amphetamine Reptile or Touch and Go bands which were characterised more by an attitude than a cohesive style or sound. As a result, the reference points that we do share (Unsane, Cherubs, Breach, Entombed, Cursed, Hammerhead, Killdozer, Helmet, Shellac, Today is the Day, Melvins, Whores, Gnod, Part Chimp etc) have more to do with a certain attitude and approach to music rather than the act of songwriting itself.”

Baby Strange – World Below

Baby Strange will release their second album World Below on June 17 through Icons Creating Evil Art.

Vocalist/guitarist Jonny Madden said: “Since the release of our debut album we’ve had a lot of ups and downs as a band. The highs were unbelievable and the lows were some of the darkest we’ve ever encountered. There was actually a time where we never thought we’d release another album.

When the pandemic hit, we took a step back and looked at where we were at. As with every band, it was difficult not having the release of live music, we were all struggling with our mental health on personal levels and we started to feel defeated.

But, being from Glasgow, we never shy away from a fight, so we got up and started writing again. We booked a few weeks in a writing house out in the middle of nowhere and spent time working on rhythms and new sounds that were fitting to where we’re at in 2022.

The result is ‘World Below’, a record that’s bursting with energy & emotion.

We are so proud of it. It’s exactly what we set out to create, an exciting, honest album that feels brave and bold all at the same time. The new era is here and we can’t wait for people to come along for the ride with us.”

“We want people to be inspired by the music we make, like we’ve been inspired and comforted by other bands,”  Cooper adds “I think we’re going through the exact same things that most 17-years-olds are going through. Hopefully our music can help them feel less alone.”

Soreption – Jord

Soreption will release new record Jord on June 10 through Unique Leader.

The band said: “Our main focus, as it has been in every album since the beginning, is to write death metal with a blend of technicality and groove.  The goal is to raise those two elements’ more and more for every release. Finding that balance keeping the music interesting is important aspects when we write.”
