The Spook School – Like a Heartbeat

The Spook School are back with new music for the first time in more than half a decade with new album Like a Heartbeat due for release on January 29, 2027, through Alcopop! Records.
Speaking on their return, Nye Todd said: “Something particularly infuriating about the last few years is the neverending torrent of conversations and decisions about trans people’s right to exist that take place without any trans people having a voice.
“Sometimes the level of ignorance is so extreme that it would almost be funny, if it wasn’t being used as the basis to try and kick us out of society, but when it’s judges, or politicians, or employers that are choosing to get all of their ‘facts’ from anti-trans hate groups, it’s not funny—it’s dangerous and negligent.”
“Some of the songs on the album definitely come from those emotions of anger and injustice; wanting to run into those closed rooms of people ignorantly debating our existence and yell ‘we exist and you’re so wrong!’. Unfortunately our songs seem more relevant than ever. We kind of hoped our old songs would become outdated, but we still feel we have something to say, especially as things seem to be getting worse.”
Paerish – Rita
Paerish will release new album Rita on October 16 through SideOneDummy Records.
Vocalist/guitarist Mathias Court said: “Rita is an album deeply shaped by childhood memories, the passing of time, and the need to preserve a sense of creative sincerity through the years. Its title refers to a bell tower I could see from the window of my family’s apartment in the South of France when I was a child.
“Saint Rita, patron saint of lost causes, embodied something both protective and luminous to me, but also the sacrifices and uncertainty that come with having a band and trying to make a living from it.”

Vocalist Noah Rich said: “while(True) is our most ambitious and personal release yet.
“Through the story of a failing medical technology company experimenting with dream manipulation, we explore themes of trauma, addiction, perception, and the unseen forces that shape the way we think. More than anything, this album represents our growth as writers. We challenged ourselves creatively, stopped following expectations, and made the record we truly wanted to make. Polyphia – Be Not Afraid

Polyphia will release new album Be Not Afraid on October 23 through Rise Records.
Guitarist Tim Henson said: “Instead of going wide on BE NOT AFRAID, we went as deep as we could,” Henson shares. “There are so many layers to pull back. Every time you listen to it, you’ll notice something new. Thematically, it’s by far the most meaningful record we’ve ever made.”
“We physically can’t make the same album twice,” adds guitarist Scott LePage. “We have a yearning to evolve. It was so much fun to write this one together too – the writing sessions for past Polyphia records typically looked like us gathering our ideas separately first and bringing them to each other second, so we took a different approach with BE NOT AFRAID by treating the sessions like an opportunity to create with everybody in the room first before getting into the separate writing.
”It was a much more communal approach that led to us having so much fun making it that the fun itself was the magic being captured.”
Henson added: “The album takes you through the extremes of two different worlds / moods: one being very uplifting and triumphant, the other being spine-chilling and terrifying. There are moments on the record that legitimately scare me when I listen to them.
“During the making of this record, we went down some pretty dark rabbit holes. We kept coming across things that were so depraved they sounded insane when you said them out loud. Then some of the very things we had been talking about started appearing in documents released to the public. You can read that stuff and feel disgusted, demoralised, and completely powerless. BE NOT AFRAID is our response to that. Rather than allowing the ugliness of the world to paralyse us, we put everything we had into making something beautiful. We weren’t afraid of whether something was too different or whether people were going to understand it. We just followed what excited us and made what I believe is our best record to date.”
