Welcome to our New Records Round Up, where we bring you teasers for the recently announced alternative albums and EPs.
In this week’s New Record Round Up, we bring you teasers for six recently announced albums and EPs.
The records come from acts all across the alternative music world.
Pet Needs – Kind of Acoustic
Pet Needs will release acoustic album Kind of Acoustic on January 24, 2025, through Xtra Mile Recordings.
Frontman Johnny Marriott said: “We wanted to create something warm, raw and organic. Something acoustic. Something that felt like the most true take as opposed to the most perfect.
“Presenting the songs in this way has given them space to breathe. We’ve never recorded like this before.
“Mike West was amazing at the helm, guiding us through playing by feeling and having a conversation with our instruments as opposed to just hammering the tunes out. We’ve chosen what we thought would be best presented as acoustic songs, and together have created something we’re really proud of.”

Society Of Villains – Good & Evil
Society Of Villains will release new EP Good & Evil on April 25 through CloudKid!
The band said of the EP: “This EP speaks to the ones on the fringes of society who have no desire to change who they are to fit in. This EP was made for people like this: outcasts. In a similar vein, our creative process is anything but rinse and repeat. We always try to stretch the boundaries of our own boxes and ideas about what this band is.”

The DSM IV will release new EP Negative Utopia on January 31 through 9×9 Records.
“I think we’re inspired by a lot of stuff like books, and dare I say it even certain artists and painters,” says frontman Guy McKnight of the band’s world.
“But for me personally, especially by film. Directors, photography, film scores. Different aspects. To put it in a nutshell, I think it’s always healthy to have a recognition or full-on embrace of the dark, unhinged, existential crises that everyone experiences from time to time in our creativity. Particularly now, in this social media generation, it’s becoming increasingly important.”

Regarding the artwork for Power Train, Chris explains: “For the artwork we teamed up with Jan Yrlund / Darkgrove design. It invites you to join this majepic ride of the Power Train, imagine standing there on the platform eagerly waiting, and you hear “all aboard”!”.
