Selfish Things – Receptivity

Selfish Things will release new album Receptivity on October 9 through FLG.
Frontman Alex Biro has used Receptivity as a blistering look into collapse and recovery. He said: “This wasn’t supposed to be an album. It’s still not really an album to me, or to any of us. More just… closure, I guess.
“I was at the beginning of my full-blown addiction on the last tour we ever did before COVID stopped the world in 2020. I hated myself and I hated the world more than I really knew at the time.
“I’m four years sober on the 18th of May, working as a sober coach and clinician with folks who struggle with the same things I do, even in my recovery. The profits will be donated to the hospital where I went to rehab, and (admittedly), we don’t really know where to go (or if we’ll go anywhere with it) afterward.
“The only thing that’s brought me peace in the aftermath of the cataclysm of my addiction is being of service to others. I think deep down, releasing this for whoever needs to hear it is an extension of that. Everything beautiful blooms from the mud. Everything beautiful grows from the dirt.
“This is for those who can accept that the things they’ve been through can either be the poison cup they sip from or the counterweight that lifts themselves and others up. That being imperfect is being human. And that suffering is singular, and universal.”

hubris – White Shores

After four albums based on Greek mythology, Jonathan Hohl changed direction to focus on his other love – The Lord of the Rings and Middle Earth.
He said: “The Hobbit was my very first exposure to literature as a child, and after Peter Jackson’s original film trilogy, I became completely obsessed with Middle-Earth.“
The album focuses on the exploration of mortality and immortality, with inspiration following the death of Hohl’s grandfather.

Bleeker – Elephant

“We were largely left alone to make this one with very little distractions. We were also on a prolific writing streak (still are) and going into this one had over 25 song demos or ruff recordings to polish and workshop. If Elephant didn’t sonically set the tone it certainly set the bar, we’ll always try to write albums that have depth and represent who we are as a band, so it feels like to us, we’ve created an album that is just that.

Poison The Preacher – Things I Want

Poison The Preacher will release new EP Things I Want on July 17 through Seek and Strike.
The band said: “We started working on these songs as soon as we finished writing our debut album, Vs The World, and these songs just came naturally to us.
“This new EP is easily the next step for us, a real evolution towards a more definitive and unique sound. It’s more refined, aggressive, harder and heavier. We are pulling inspiration from all over the place and this is a more accurate representation of all our influences.
“The EP talks about broken dreams, toxic purposes, things that you would give your entire life to, but they may never become true.
“It’s a testament to obsession and ambition, in both a good and a bad way. It’s okay to have a purpose, to have a dream that you want with all your heart, but you can’t let it consume you and destroy your life.”

Gorod – The Ember Gone

Credit: Leonor Ananké
Gorod will release new album The Ember Gone on August 28 through Base Productions and Season of Mist.
Guitarist Mathieu Pascal said: “We are undoubtedly delivering the most singular album in our discography. As we are always driven by the desire not to repeat ourselves, to evolve, and to keep surprising people, we sought new ways to express ourselves through different musical vocabularies than those traditionally associated with extreme metal.
“This album is freer and more open, yet without compromising the complexity and richness of the songwriting, which will always remain the band’s trademark.”
