In recent times, we’ve lost a couple of musical greats who have lost their battles with depression and other mental illnesses, most recently Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. Sadly this is a regular occurrence with people losing battles every day.

Mental health isn’t something that should have a stigma to it, yet sadly, it still does. We all know that there are ways for people to cope or distract themselves and music is one of them (see Chandni’s article on music and depression here). There are several organisations that have been set up that have the aim of helping people with mental health issues through music. In fact there are several currently on Vans Warped Tour.

We want to highlight one closer to home though. Recently As Sirens Fall frontman Mikey Lord revealed a project he has been working on for some time now; We Are Not Dead Yet, an organisation with the aim to break down the stigma surrounding mental health. On the website, there are helplines for those who wish to speak to someone and also designs you can purchase, all of which are handmade, decently priced and with a donation of £2.00 from every purchase going to one of the leading mental health charities Mind.

We know the cause is very close to Mikey’s heart as well as a lot of us here at AltCorner. Please check out the website and if you can, grab some cool merch.
