MIKAL CRONIN UNVEILS NEW VIDEO FOR ‘SAY’ – A PARODY OF ‘CALL ME AL’ GONE HORRIBLY AWRY

Produced by Funny or Die and directed by comedian Jonah Ray, the ‘Say’ video was inspired by Paul Simon’s iconic ‘You Can Call Me Al’, a staple of 1980s MTV. ‘Say’ begins innocently enough with grey suits and horns but quickly disintegrates into madness. This is one to watch right until the very end.

“This year’s Lost in the Dream is the industry buzz around Mikal Cronin’s third album MCIII.” – NME

“Cronin has proved that, like Cobain before him, he’s so much more than long hair with a fuzz pedal. He’s an excellent pop craftsman who knows how to turn the power up for maximum effect.” – Pitchfork

“As vital as the air that you breathe, you need this in your life.” – The Quietus

“Cronin’s third effort is another ambitious leap into ornate record-making.” – MOJO

“On his third album, MCIII, you can practically hear him rubbing his hands with glee as he stuffs his songs with joyous strings and horns, which couch his most emphatic and vulnerable moments…behind the debris, there are glimmers of shimmering greatness.” – The Guardian

Mikal Cronin premiered the new video for ‘Say’ from MCIII last night on Funny or Die.

Jonah Ray shared this statement about the video:

“When my friend Mikal Cronin approached me about doing a video parody of Paul Simon’s ‘You Can Call Me Al’ and said that I would be playing the part of Chevy, I stopped him right there. I said, “Mikal, my dear sweet acquaintance, I alone cannot play ‘the Chevy,’ as we are all ‘the Chevy.’ He is the light, the love, the Fletch.” That’s when Mikal broke down in tears over the phone. I laughed at him and said, “It’ll be okay young, dumb, silly Mikal… It’ll be okay”.”

The Mikal Cronin band will begin their European tour on May 28 at Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona. MCIII is available now on Merge Records.
