Heavy folk artist ISAAC BIRCHALL is set to self-release his debut album Where We Are on the 18th September – seven songs full of power, passion and acoustic riffage.
His unique brand of ‘Heavy Folk’ has been turning many heads in his native North Wales for the past few years; aggressive acoustic guitar work, powerful vocals and the weight of a strong rhythm section come together to create a high energy sound that is very distinctive to him.
Isaac recruited Andy Cooper (Drums), Jake Vaughan Evans (Guitar) and Matty Hawker (Bass) to form the live band early 2015 and his local success has soared exponentially. With support slots with Nick Oliveri, Toby Jepson, Joe Lynn-Turner and Burt Bacharach already under their belts, the band are poised to make a huge impression on the UK this autumn.
On mixing acoustic guitar with heavy music, Isaac comments “I love the sound of an acoustic guitar at the front of a big heavy riff, it adds a rhythmic quality that I always think you can “feel” somehow, so I like to keep my songs with that acoustic sound up front.“
The lyrical content is about personal struggle and battling against the odds. He continues: “The songs deal a lot with the positives of rejection and helplessness, often rooted themselves in music, ranging from trying to have an “I know best” attitude in the face of everything and everyone telling me otherwise, to the feeling of absolute destitution and hopelessness and how that can inspire you.”
For fans of Frank Turner and Bob Dylan, Isaac Birchall’s latest masterpiece is a must listen for lovers of folk, heavy rock, and everything in between.
