No Seatbelt DIY is a promotions group that was set up last year by Alex Hall and Sam Hopkins with the aim of growing the emo and pop punk scene in Exeter.
“It’s expanded since first forming to the wider South West area, including grunge and hardcore bands. For the launch night in November, we got Hindsights and Grayscale (now Larkhill) to come down to Exeter for a one-off show, supported by Devon locals Pretend Happy, Brace for Impact and Splitsville. Our real aspiration is to just support local music, promote local bands in the genres, put on shows for them, and get touring bands to use Exeter as a regular spot. The compilation is another way we thought of for promoting the genres locally, if we can showcase the talent we have in the South West and hand out these CDs for free, we can hopefully help these bands get the recognition they deserve. We’re planning a number of shows for 2015, with the first one confirmed for Thursday 26th February at Exeter Cavern”. – Alex Hall and Sam Hopkins.
We here at AltCorner think it’s fantastic what No Seatbelt DIY are doing and plan to do as we share a lot of their aspirations and motives. We look forward to working with them in the future as we battle together trying to get bands who deserved to be heard the recognition they deserve.
Below is a stream of the Compilation Album that you can download for free. It features 15 bands including Late Nights & Long Drives, Pretend Happy, Pushing Daisies and Honeypot who have all featured on AltCorner.
