Ever wondered what inspires a band to create the music that they do? This time it is the turn of Charm The Fury lead singer Caroline to take on our Desert Island Discs challenge and reveal her top albums of all time.

UNDEROATH – DISAMBIGUATION

This is the album that got me into the entire growling thing. Of course it all started out with Define The Great Line – that’s when I really fell in love with Underoath. But I remember that this album particularly struck me with the fact that you have all these types of females in the metal industry, but no female doing something like Underoath does. Super-heavy, emotional, but also in your face and done by guys that don’t look like complete lunatics ;-).

HE IS LEGEND – IT HATES YOU

I think this is one of the best albums ever made. I once read an interview that said that this record stemmed from jam sessions in He Is Legend’s rehearsal space and I think you can really hear that in the songs. The music is has this weirded out and dark vibe, with great atmospheric parts. Also great to hear He Is Legend take some parts to the edge: for example the guitars in That’s Nasty or the addition of the female vocalist in the break of Decisions, Decisions, Decisions (as well as in other songs). I think you achieve your goal as a band when your sound is super authentic, and that’s just typically He Is Legend.

CIRCA SURVIVE – BLUE SKY NOISE

Anthony Green is just insane. Have you seen the Myspace Transmissions sessions? This band is so unbelievably great live. And literally in every song there’s this great build up to an even greater climax. I remember attending this super-intimate show in Amsterdam years ago and I believe I haven’t stopped listen to Blue Sky Noise ever since. it’s an album that just doesn’t bore me, how many times I listen to it.

MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER – II

This is just the best Summer / being on the road album. Whenever I listen to Darkest Of Kin I imagine myself being in LA, drinking beers with friends and barbecuing the heck out of a great dish. It has the ultimate party-vibes.

POISON THE WELL – YOU COME BEFORE YOU

Poison The Well is also one of the top-bands that has this special place in my heart because of the great memories. I remember going on a roadtrip to Groezrock Festival with some friends, approx. ten years ago. It was one of my first hardcore / metalcore festivals I’d ever attended and I had the best time – so this album really brings me back to that great weekend. We jammed this record on our way to the festival and would shout the lyrics of Ghostchant over the festival terrain for three days straight.
