In today’s A-Z challenge, we find out all about Swansea rockers The Stray Pursuit!
A song that made you want to make music?
Sweet Child O’ Mine.
Best rider you’ve had?
9 cans of San Miguel and 3 cans of cider (and this is actually quite good, they’re rare at this stage).
Craziest moment you’ve had in the band?
Going past someone in the car who was playing our music was pretty crazy to me. Also having our latest song ‘I Dont Know’ played on BBC Radio Wales this week. (Not particularly rock n roll answers I know).
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
“I’m always asking questions that are burning in my mind, I’m only human after all” – unreleased track called ‘Human’
Easiest song you wrote?
Mama.
Favourite song in your set?
Has to be one of the newer ones we’ve written either Feel Alive or Come On (Shake It).
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
Dave Grohl
Hardest thing about being in a band?
The amount of time you need to make vs the time you have. It’s the same as working two jobs.
Interesting fact about one of your members?
Aaron started properly learning to sing because he broke his knee, and needed something to keep him busy.
Jokes you have in the band?
Ben being ancient.
Key to writing a song?
Having a catchy hook, and meaty guitar work.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
Almost 200 miles to The Dublin Castle, Camden!
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
Seeing Paul McCartney live at Glastonbury was an incredible experience. To see one of The Beatles play the biggest festival slot in the world was the most inspiring experience you could ask for.
New band you’d recommend?
Subterrania.
Opening for this band would be ideal?
Foo Fighters (Royal Blood, Idles, Fontaines DC, Wunderhorse).
Place you’d most like to tour?
America
Quote you’d like to pass on to our readers?
‘Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light’ – Professor Dumbledore
Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?
‘I Don’t Know’ – to sum up the confusion the lyrics describe.
See us live at?
6th December – The Moon, Cardiff
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
Definitely. But maybe because the stuff you grew up with will always be best.
Unusual merchandise?
We have triangular road sign pin badges to match the artwork of ‘I Don’t Know’. We’re toying with the idea of condoms with Aaron‘s face on them. Just seeing his face is enough protection!
Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?
We’ve actually got an acoustic EP planned for 2025.
What do your fans mean to you?
Our fans are the reason why we do it, hearing them sing our songs back to us every gig keeps the fire lit!
X-rays or any treatments needed for band related injuries?
Ben has broken fingers and his thumb. He says not from playing drums, from a piss up afterwards.
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
Ben’s van breaking down (we’ve come close to this situation).
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?
The Lar Gibbon.
