The Haptics take on the A-Z challenge

Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many bands and artists out there. Here its the turn of The Haptics to tell us about themselves.

In today’s A-Z challenge, we asked The Haptics to tell us about themselves and vocalist Jin obliged by answering 26 fun questions.

A song that made you want to make music?

Ceremony by New Order.

Best rider you have had?

Probably an excellently lit vanity.

Craziest moment as an artist?

Probably playing a live skateboarding show, some of those kick flips were super close to
the stage.

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

The world outside has lost its sound” – about depression in “Zeroes”.

Easiest song you wrote?

Probably “Biodome” which comes out this December. The words flowed really easily for
that one.

Zeroes”.

Probably Augustus Muller from Boy Harsher.

Hardest thing about being a solo artist?

Performing with no one else on stage with you!

I’m a super fast speed reader, it’s my super power.

Joke you like to tell?

Oh man all I know are dad jokes, and you’ve probably heard them all!

Key to writing a song?

Jot down ideas for things you’d like to write about so you can find melodies that suit them.
It helps during dry periods where you’re feeling uncreative.

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

4 hours away from home!

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

I became friends with Zach Hill years ago and find him to be one of the most talented,
humble, and creative people I’ve ever met.

They’re not super new but I really recommend Cosmetics, a Vancouver based dark wave
band.

Opening for this band/artist would be ideal?

New Order!

Place you’d most like to tour?

I’d love to travel to Berlin to play, as I used to live there and still have friends there eager to
see our show.

Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?

“A closed mouth doesn’t get fed.”

Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?

For “Vows”, the idea of the song rests upon the conflict between what you say and what
you do, e.g., your “vows”.

See me live at?

We’re playing 10/21 at The Cobalt in Vancouver!

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Oh for sure! I miss turning on the radio in the 90s and finding music I really like.

Unusual merchandise?

We’ve got guitar picks!

Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?

Maybe it’s a big off-topic but I really want to cover “Toxic” by Britney Spears, just post-punk
style.

What do your fans mean to you?

Our fans are everything! We’re so glad to see their beautiful faces at our shows.

X-rays or any other treatments needed for performance-related injuries?

Dressing for my wounded ego, please.

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

Probably my fault. (Jin, singer) I always underestimate how long it takes to get ready. You’d think I know by now!

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of you?

Panda. Eat, sleep, roll around and look adorable.
