In today’s A-Z challenge we wanted to find out more about The Bloodshots so we asked frontman CJ Loane to answer 26 burning questions.
A song that made you want to make music?
For me personally I can recall seeing the music video to Lithium by Nirvana at a young age and having that song move me like nothing before. it was like time stopped and a new that I wanted to play rock music
Best rider you’ve had?
This one time we played a big show on an indigenous reservation and they treated us like royalty the feast that they made for us was unbelievable!
Craziest moment you’ve had in the band?
One good story is a time we were touring through Los Angeles California and we were tired and hungry so we pulled over to grab a bite at the Hard Rock Café and when we came back out an hour later our van had been towed with all of our gear in it and had to pay 500 U.S. dollars to get it back which put a dent in our profits haha.
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
That is a tough one. I feel like each one of our songs has deep lyrical meaning behind it no matter what the words are but in our latest single titled The Bay Blues, the whole song kind of tells a story and the lyrics have some snide remarks mixed within.
Easiest song you wrote?
I would say our single Go to Hell would fall into that category it was just a kind of fun punk feel and every part of the song just flowed together instantly in the writing process.
Favourite song in your set?
We have a unreleased single called Gettin Around that is a set favorite because the crowd always loves that song and it always gets them moving and when the crowd is into it we feed off of it keep your eyes out for that one in the coming months.
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
That’s another tough one! We have played with so many big bands over the years but I think it would be really cool to have a legend like Slash lay down some lead riffs and a solo in one of our songs. We were lucky enough to play a show with him in Winnipeg, Canada and he was just such a cool guy.
Hardest thing about being in a band?
I’ve always said that being in a band is harder than being in a relationship haha. You’ve got to find those personalities and chemistry to make the whole thing gel together.
Interesting fact about one of your members?
I once had my throat slashed open and my vocal cords took some damage but 2 months and some plastic surgery later and we were out supporting Buckcherry!
Jokes you have in the band?
Tons. And they all get played on drummer Ben Hodges!
Key to writing a song?
Don’t force it. Let’s the ideas come naturally and organically and then make some magic happen.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
2,500kms to Hollywood California!
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
Recently we opened for Canadian rock legends The Headstones and frontman Hugh Dillion was such a rad guy. Just a genuine rock n roller!
New band you’d recommend?
Really been digging the vibe of Viagra Boys!
Opening for this band would be ideal?
That would be one hell of a party haha.
Place you’d most like to tour?
Europe! The UK would be a blast!
Quote you like to pass on to our readers?
“Fuck around and find out”. An ancient Indigenous proverb hahaha.
Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?
Our single The Bay Blues is titled after the San Francisco Bay area and has to do with a trip that I took there years back with a nightmare of an ex.
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
We come from growing up in the 90s. The whole grunge movement, the California punk movement and bands that came after like Silverchair etc. So yeah. Rock really thrived then and is more often than not, put on the backburner these days it seems.
Unusual merchandise?
That depends on your definition of unusual ha. Panties? Shit glasses?
Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?
I think it would be cool to have a dubstep artist tweak one of our tunes. Kind of like how Korn would work with groups like The Crystal Method back in the day.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. We only exist because of y’all!
X-rays or any treatments needed for band related injuries?
Nah. No one cares. Go harder. Rock n roll baby!
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
The drummer. It’s just easier that way.
Zoo animal that next describes the personality of your band?
Like if a rabid hyena mated with a 3 legged chupacabra!
