Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many bands and artists out there. Here it’s the turn of Royal Tusk to tell us all about themselves!

A song that made you want to make music?

Hallowed Be Thy Name Iron Maiden. Got The Number Of The Beast cassette when I was 5yrs old and it made me wanna run through a brick wall.

 Best rider you have had?

Personal cocktail bartender and because the festival was right next to the ocean, it was a fresh seafood bonanza. I drank a thousand beers and ate a billion oysters.

Craziest moment in the band?

Having to punch your way out of a bad situation.

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

I should be losing sleep but losing ain’t enough

There’s not a tragedy so bad it keeps me up

Easiest song you wrote?

Some come easier than others, but they are never easy.

Favourite song to play in your set?

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

I dunno… maybe Chino Moreno from Deftones.

Hardest thing about being in a band?

Finding a clean toilet

Interesting fact about one of your members?

That they all drive me up the fuckin wall.

Jokes you have in the band?

Dumb van jokes stay in the van

Key to writing a song?

Be honest… write and play music for all the good reasons.

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

I live in Canada, every stop is the longest distance ever.

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

We did a tour with Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators. Playing with one of my childhood rock heroes was incredibly inspiring…but that was overshadowed by how humble and extremely cool he was to us and our crew.

New band you’d recommend?

We are about to start a Canadian national tour with a band called BRKN LOVE. We’ve toured together before, and they are an amazing new rock band that was elements of throwback 70’s rock.

Opening for this band would be ideal?

I could write a novel about bands I wished we could open for…I’m just gonna say the first one that comes to my head…fuckI guess it’s Mozart

Place you’d most like to tour?

I’d love to get back to Japan. But I’ve never been to Australia, so that would be amazing.

Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?

“Be excellent to each other. And… PARTY ON, DUDES!”

Abraham Lincoln in Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure

See us live at?

We leave for tour next week, Canada, I’m lookin at you!

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Not necessarily, we have a way bigger variety of music to choose from. Maybe I still love older music, but that’s just cause I grew up loving it. I think today we just have a lot more to choose from. That’s pretty awesome that there’s more kickass stuff to pump.

Unusual Merchandise?

Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?

Like do a reggae version of one? I’ll let someone else do that…..hahahaha….actually we are currently, and slowly re-working some of our older songs and doing them with totally different feels etc….

What do your fans mean to you?

The fact that some people around the world know our songs, and that they mean something to them…well that’s just incredible. Hats off to you, you all make doing this so worth it.

X-rays or any treatments needed for band injuries?

Not too long ago I put a rusty nail through my boot and foot. Needed a tetanus shot. But I’ve also split my head open while skateboarding on tour…I don’t do that anymore.

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

Definitely not mine.

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?

We always refer to Quinn as a baby rhino. Very mild mannered but cross him the wrong way and he’ll send ya to another time zone.
