In today’s A-Z challenge, we task Luna Marble’s Maria with answering our 26 questions about the band!
A song that made you want to make music?
I have been wanting to make music since I was four, always making my own songs and performing for others, so hard to say! I think it’s when I turned 14 that I was turning my head to bands/artists like Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, David Bowie that I was starting to get an itch to do my own music.
I would say maybe ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’ by Led Zeppelin, the first time I heard that song I was so surprised that a song could overwhelm me with so much emotion and something else unlocked in me about my understanding for music.
Best rider you have had?
We are still quite small, so the gigs we play don’t usually have a rider haha! But once we played at Firevolt Festival and they treated us to all sorts of fruits, biscuits, chocolates and drinks which was the first time that happened to us so we were very pleasantly surprised!
Craziest moment as an artist?
Lately we have been having a couple of gigs where people are actually singing along to our songs and that is something crazy and magical to be able to connect with people in that way. I think it was on our album launch this past 3rd of October than more of half of the crowd where singing Sea of Sorrow out loud back to us and it was like a ‘I have made it’ moment.
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
It has to be Mad World. It’s a song that I have put off releasing for a long time as it’s a very bluntly honest insight into a period when I was 18 and frustrated with the misogyny I was experiencing when I was trying to establish myself as a musician. Ever since then, the meaning of the song has evolved to me as a reminder not to give up and hold tight to my dreams despite the adversities.
Easiest song you wrote?
I find it easier to write songs where the instrumental lets me have space to play with more complex melodies, the lyrics seems to flow more easily that way. Misbelieving had to be one of those instances, although unreleased we have a live version on Youtube!
Favourite song in your set?
It changes very often! The thing about being so hands on with the recording and producing of your music it can led you to be burnt of your own songs quite often aha! But at the moment is a new song we have written that we are testing out on gigs called One for Another.
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
Stevie Nicks will be a lifelong dream come true but maybe thinking of more modern artist that I am really liking at the moment will be Florence Welch or Abigail from The Last Dinner Party. Always reaching for the stars!
Interesting fact about you?
If I eat eggs and beans I must have them on separate plates because I don’t like them to touch, I like to be in control on how much and when I decide to mix those flavours is something I have been very particular since I was a kid.
Joke you like to tell?
I don’t think I know any of my top of my head, but I always enjoy make people laugh and I consider myself to have a very sarcastic but bubbly humour.
Key to writing a song?
I am still figuring that out myself! I try to not force it and just be ready when inspiration strikes, most of my ideas come from improvising things on the spot and I try to not overthink it and just follow that first instinct as I think that’s the most genuine form of self-expression when writing a song.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
Maybe London? We have played in Denmark before but that London journey was long! Being an independent band and playing a show for £50 meant that we just took the mega bus for less than a tenner each at 6 in the morning and made it back for 4 in the morning with all sorts of complications. There was police involved at one moment, someone got left behind at a stop so the coach had to go back for, a fight in the middle of a bus etc. it definitely makes for a memorable story to tell for years to come!
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
Not long ago I went to see The Last Dinner Party on their tour for their latest album Thy Pyre and wow just wow, I am still speechless. Of course my roots come from musicians from the 70s who have had a huge impact on me musically, however it’s so refreshing to see modern bands challenging the concept of rock in such an exciting way.
It was incredibly original, the theatrics, the stage design, their stage presence, the harmonies, instrumentation, everything had me with my jaw on the floor the entire time. It just goes to show that if you give women and non binary people a safe space and the backing to thrive in their element great things come out. Especially in the rock scene I still see a lot of male bands who are not bringing anything fresh which makes this genre feel stagnant when their is so much potential for it to be in the mainstream and to channel that rawness and passion. Just a thought!
New band/artist you’d recommend?
As mentioned before I think people should have their eyes on The Last Dinner Party. A smaller artist on the same scene that I recently discovered is Smith and Liddle and Flat Moon who’ve both recently released their debut albums as well and I must say they are both phenomenal!
Opening for this band/artist would be ideal?
Hard to say… I feel like our music takes inspirations from so many styles and avenues that anything could work, from a mesmerising folk acoustic set, to a funk hectic set. Maybe the readers could let us know!
Place you’d most like to tour?
I would like to go around Europe, I heard great things about the rock scene in Germany and I would like to see it for myself!
Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?
`Fake it until you make it’ I live out this quote everyday, meaning you don’t have to wait for perfection to start acting on your dreams, just do the best you can and learn with every step you take!
Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?
We decided to self title our album as we didn’t have any definite concept behind it. It’s meant to symbolise the first years of Luna Marble and that collection of songs showcases our beginnings and our journey up until now, so I guess you can see it as the birth of Luna Marble.

We are working on booking some shows for 2026 that feel a bit different… I guess stay tuned? But if you are promoter or you want to pitch an idea we always welcome those!
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
I’d say in the old days mainstream music as a whole was better although I’m sure there was lots of crap back then too that maybe didn’t stand the test of time. Also back in the day it was very difficult to make it unless you were signed and the non-existence of things like auto-tune, quantising etc meant that you actually had to be a good musician to make it. However, another thing that is different today is that you don’t necessarily have to get signed to have your break.
Tools for music making, distribution and promotion are widely accessible today giving everyone a change to have real go at it. With that in mind I think there is still a lot of great music out there today (if not more than in the old days), it’s just not all in the mainstream.
Unusual merchandise?
We pretty much have your standard T-shirts, posters etc but I would love to make Luna Marble candles! I am a very sensory person and I love lighting up scented candles when listening to music, to enhance the experience so I would love to share that experience with my fans!
Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?
I am pretty sure that I speak for the rest of the band, me myself included when we say that we LOVE disco music, the cheesier the better! So at some point in my career when we are old with grey hairs and have access to our own studio to just have creating I would love to see the day that Luna Marble goes Bee Gees!
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything to us. Slowly but surely we have built such a lovely community without which we would be nowhere near where we are today. We are still an independent band but with high aspirations and lots of ideas. The only thing that stands in the way of us putting those into practice is money really so the support of our fans is absolutely vital and we couldn’t be more grateful for it. To our fans: you are making our dreams come true so thank you!

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
It would have to be me or Dragos. Oops! Let’s just say that we suffer from poor time management sometimes but David is always on time!
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?
What a question! It’s honestly very difficult. I would say a lion maybe because of the power and passion of our music but then we also have our more mellow and ethereal side and I cannot for the life of me think of an animal that encapsulates both!
