Lobsterbomb take on the A-Z challenge

Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many bands and artists out there. Here it’s the turn of Lobsterbomb to tell us about themselves!

We get to know Lobsterbomb in today’s A-Z challenge as the band take on 26 questions!

A song that made you want to make music?

Something about ‘Will Anything Happen’ by Blondie is so casual yet precise and it really scratched my brain at when I was young.

Best rider you’ve had?

We don’t make any crazy demands but I can still taste the beautiful curry we had in Wiesbaden about 4 years ago.

Craziest moment you’ve had in the band?

Recently when we opened for Duran Duran in Berlin. Simon LeBon found our music online and became a sort of cheerleader for us, playing us on his radio show and then when Duran Duran were on their European tour he got us added to the bill. It was way more people than we’d ever played to before but Simon came on and introduced us, which helped a lot to get the audience on our side considering our music is pretty different to what they came for. And then the next day back to reality, sleeping in a tent in the mud after playing at a festival.

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

When I was young I made up fairy tales, But the land of make believe is now so far away
It is from our song ‘Paranoia’ and is about growing more realistic about the world as time passes, maybe losing some innocence for the better. The song questions how people can go the other way and get more detached from reality as they get older and start believing things that they probably shouldn’t.

Easiest song you wrote?

Not Again’ plopped out pretty much fully formed. The punkier songs tend to be easier as they are pretty simple, you spend more time finding the right energy than writing the song.

Favourite song in your set?

With the new album we get to play fresh songs which automatically gives them an edge. Right now I like playing ‘Nightbird’ as it has a bit of a darker vibe.

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

Shakira obviously.

Hardest thing about being in a band?

Finding the balance between the fun stuff and the boring but necessary tasks. Sometimes it feels like for every minute you are on stage you spend an hour doing admin, planning travel for shows or doing social media. We try to keep the ratio in check but especially around a big release like an album there’s just a million little things to do.

Interesting fact about one of your members?

Nico used to be a fashion designer, which helps with planning the stage outfits.

Jokes you have in the band?

Being a mix of  German and English native speakers leads to our own unintelligible form of  Denglish (Deutsch-English) being our default language. So our group chat is pretty nonsensical

Key to writing a song?

If you have an idea, let it cook for a while before trying to write it down or play it. If you can’t remember it after a few days it probably wasn’t such an amazing idea to begin with.

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

Probably to the south-west of Germany which is 8-9 hours from Berlin. Only one of us drives, which is the only thing stopping the world tour.

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

Honestly I get most inspired going to see local bands, seeing people I know out there making things happen always gets me in the mood to do the same.

New band you’d recommend?

There’s so many! Tough Mother, Riot Spears, Hear Me Out, Water Machine, Vlimmer, Eddie.

Opening for this band would be ideal?

Amyl and the Sniffers as I want free tickets to see Amyl and the Sniffers.

Place you’d most like to tour?

We have at least three fans in Japan and it would be nice to visit them.

Quote you’d like to pass on to our readers?

“To sleep, per chance to dream.” is a very poetic way to justify having a nap every now and then.

Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?

Our album is called ‘Overstimulated’ and it relates to sensory overload. It’s both about being in the band, sometimes everyone is tuning up or whatever and there’s all these dissonant sounds fighting each other, or it can be in real life, too much bad news, too hot, too crowded and every other kind of sensitivity. You can’t really stop it from happening, you just have to find whatever coping mechanism works best and try to get through it. And for us that’s making music and playing shows.

See us live at?

We’ll be touring in Germany in early 2026 and we play fairly regularly in Berlin. Come visit, it’s a fun place!

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

The music itself is the same, there was good music then and there’s good music now. Maybe it was easier to be a musician when rents were lower and you could still live on a meagre income. But also the barrier for entry is much lower now, you can make everything from your bedroom on a laptop if you want. It’s less of a boys club today which is also a big positive.

Unusual merchandise?

For our first album ‘Look Out’, we made a little zine with all the lyrics, photos and fun quizzes like you would find in old pop music magazines “which band member are you?”

Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?

Dance-pop-banger with guest verse from Shakira, obviously.

What do your fans mean to you?

We are just so grateful that anyone out there is listening. If we are playing a show and someone is singing along, they actually know the words, it really elevates the whole experience for us.

X-rays or any treatments needed for band related injuries?

I rolled my ankle jumping off the stage earlier this year. Nothing broken but now it clicks when I flex it. A new percussive element for us to utilise one day perhaps.

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

We are the most punctual band in showbiz today. But there have been a few last minute bathroom breaks due to nervous energy.

Zoo animal that next describes the personality of your band?

I think some kind of giant lizard, in that we are pretty chilled out normally but once the stage lights warm us up, the energy appears and it’s time for action.
